Valda was actually planning to go see LWL this morning!

Let's hope she wakes up in time, LOL.

I stayed until the end and the second half was pretty much danced straight through with only a few quick pauses for scenery changes so it was much more like a real performance. Still it didn't finish until 11.35 pm and they should have started earlier and the interval went on far too long (husband was planning to stay but interval went on so long he finally left as he had to get up early today). So all in all, I'm glad I went, glad it was free but it would have been better if they'd told us when booking that this would be interrupted throughout because of the technicalities of the 3D filming process and then people wouldn't have been disappointed.

And here I am, dozed until 12pm there again I stayed up reading till 2pm.
WEll I've seen this before, 15 years ago and I've also got the DVD so I grabbed the chance to see it again. Yes the interruptions were a bit annoying, but thinking about it the begginning bit I think will be shown all over each other in a fast sequence as they are not really important. The longer interval, I didn't time it but it didn't seem much longer than the norm, I guess the poor guys needed a break. The last curtain down was rather bewildering as no one said what was happening and more people walked out. In retrospect, the guys had to do the big costume change and make up for the final swan scenes.

Where we were sitting (thanks Celini) you could hear them breathing, and hissing and see the sweat, If we'd been p*ying for this I would have only been able to afford the back of the circle! What amazing performers these boys are it must be one of the hardest roles for a male dancer. Lead swan was fabulous especially in the ballroom scenes, hehe I would  .
Another thing I noticed about this production, is that a lot of them are quite short, and there was even a little chubby one who made me laugh. Its good not to have the Ballet Police around making sure you are tall skinny and emaciated.

One of the highlights for me was when I was arriving at the theatre, seeing some of the swans on thier mobiles and smoking fags outside. Seeing them without knowing, you woud have no idea what they do for a living.

Also standing outside I saw David Baddiel and his wife Morwenna Banks turn up, Chris O Dowd was there as well.

Got to go get ready for an appointment now

I was not able to get to the theatre to pick up my tickets until just before 6.00 and ended up in the second row of the upper circle. The seats were really good though. We did an excellent view of the stage.

I have seen the ballet before, but could not remember all the details. I also do not remember it being as good as last night either – I guess that the better dancers would have been performing and each member of the cast would have been putting more effort into the performance. The interruptions were a little annoying, but it was also quite interesting to watch the process of a film being made. I have been at Sky 3D recordings at the London Coliseum and the performances have run straight through – so I am not sure why there were so many interruptions last night?

As we were seated in the upper circle, it was almost ten to twelve before we managed to get out of the theatre and I headed back to Euston for the train home, only to find that the last two trains of the night had been cancelled but they had put on a replacement bus service. Luckily I managed to get on a bus at 12.45. The bus had to then follow the train route to each of the stations.

There were two buses in convoy – the drivers and buses had come down from Leicester and had no idea of where they were or where they were going. They relied on their sat navs, phone conversations and passengers to get them from stop to stop. I suggested that they reorganised who was on which bus so that we could miss out some of the stops, but the drivers were not having any of it – only to change their minds two stops later and they ended up moving us around. The Milton Keynes and Northampton bus then headed towards the motorway, leaving me on the bus continuing to do all the stops.

I eventually got home at 3.40 am!!!

I keep thinking as to what I would have done if I had known in advance that the journey home was going to be so bad. As I really enjoyed the ballet, I think that I would probably would still have gone, and again stayed until the end (I think the second half was better than the first) but would have prepared for the journey – there were no toilets on the bus, I would have b*ght a drink to take with me and would not have sat next to someone who was going to moan for the entire journey!

maybe because last night was the one and only performance? I mean, maybe for some other play/ballet they record few nights in a row and take the best?

WEll done 5rannoh after that epic journey back, I was ok as I'm only a short tube journey away.

Now I'm all Swan obsessed again, I was researching the company and found out that the Lead Swan Richard Winsor was Edward Scissorhands, which I'd seen in the theatre. he was also in StreetDance 3D that's where I must have recognized him from vx

Hi Valda. Did you stay until the end? How much did I miss?

I really enjoyed it, too, inspite of the interruptions in the first act.
And I am looking forward to the cinema screening of the film they spoke of.
Does anyone remember what they said when they would release it? :star:

I think 5rannoch should get some kind of award for her performance in attending Swan Lake. Arriving home at 3.40 am is above and beyond the call of duty!
