Well he did say it was pointless and totally underwhelming.

Re: Insidious
My observation was if you're a fast talker, it may sound a bit like "It's Hideous", which is definitely a decent description.

Well, I decided to go and see this today after winning tickets. I found it slow to start with but also had a few jumpy moments, some of them quite predictable but equally effective. As people have mentioned before, it goes from trying to be scary to silly to the plain ridiculous. It's very cliched and feels like an old-style scary movie but it's nevertheless entertaining enough and the audience had a few laughs as a result of it.

Re: Insidious
For the Mancunians, this might be first come first served:
Insidious.
The screening will be bolstered by a Q&A session with the director himself and his long-time collaborator, writer/actor Leigh Whannell, and will take place at 7pm at the Manchester Odeon Printworks.
Synopsis:
INSIDIOUS sees the co-creators of Saw join forces with the producers of Paranormal Activity to take you on a mind-bending and chilling journey into the world of the unknown.
Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne), a happily married couple with three young children, have moved into their idyllic new suburban home when tragedy strikes their young son, Josh, and Renai begin to experience things in the house that are void of explanation. Before long their lives are turned upside down by demonic forces, hell-bent on terrorising their very existence. Forced to seek help and protect their family, they learn the terrifying truth... It’s not the house that’s haunted.

Re: Insidious
I went to see it the other day, the preview was pretty much empty and the journalists looked pretty underwhelmed but I actually really enjoyed it because I got the impression that it didn't take itself too seriously and it was all very tongue-in-cheek. I laughed a lot and I did love the Ghostbuster dudes. If that's not what the director was going for, more's the pity, but it was a good night out

Re: Insidious
This is a very debatable point, and I'm surprised it hasn't come up more. For me, there are many signs that it is almost an exercise in mocking professional physics, and anybody that believes in that stuff. The other part of me is thinking, "Well...this is James Wan, and he just isn't capable of thinking on that level." It worries me that he is clearly under the impression this is a terrifying bit of cinema. It has the odd scary moment, but that is all. It's just bizarre, but I have a soft spot for it.Anastasia_ wrote:If that's not what the director was going for, more's the pity
Re: Insidious
Just got back from the Birmingham preview and the Q&A session with the writer and director.
Gotta say I enjoyed the movie, was an old fashioned jumpfest and it was meant to play a little hammy. There was little scariness here other than the jumps though, but I think some people have been a bit harsh.
The Q&A after the film was fantastic though, the 2 guys behind this film James Wan and Leigh Whannell were a great laugh and gave some fantastic insights into this movie and the Saw franchise.
