I hope that despite all the travel problems (you poor things, I can just imaging what a nightmare getting home must have been) the premiere was an enjoyable experience?

Cool pics, sf! That doesn't look like Katy Perry, lol, are we sure it wasn't a body double? :giggle:

I went to see this last night at the Odeon @ Greenwich.... hardly any people there at all.

I thought the film was ok, some funny bits. Boyf said he much prefered the original ones.
Thought each actor played the character well, but I hope they dont make a second one.

Last night was interesting. The set up at the O2 I felt was kind of awkward for a premier but less so than setting those up in Leicester Square is right now. For the red carpet business they had a specific "pen" for the competition winners which was not crowded in the slightest. They closed said pen at about 18.10 and the stars began to arrive around 18.30. The first arrival was the director who is awfully tiny. He was followed by Dame Helen Mirren and then Greta Gerwig (who is a fox) and Geraldine James. Then Russell Brand arrived (which was announced) and got a decent crowd response before it was announced that Katy Perry was with him- which got a far louder response from the crowd. She turned the corner from the arrival point with a wall of photographers in front of her. It was a wave of flashbulbs going off. She stopped to sign autographs and poses for photos before Brand comes swooping around the corner after her. He turns her to him and speaks into her ear before he walked off back towards the arrival point. Perry then quickly made her way into the cinema without stealing any more of Brand's thunder. Someone has a fragile ego.

Mark Ronson and Noel Gallagher were also there but Noel disappeared quickly before I could get a photo. It looked like Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter were meant to be there, but if they were, they skipped the red carpet business.

There were then at least two screens on which the film was being shown. I had expected it would just be in the biggest screen, but wrong I was. Screen 3 was actually kinda small, though the screen itself was a decent size. We waited for probably 20-30 minutes before the cast finally made it's way in. Only Russell Brand said anything (which I thought was ridiculous when Helen frickin' Mirren is there too) and that was brief prior to the screening beginning.

I'll echo was has been said about the film itself- it's cute but not nearly as funny as it should have been. I definitely wonder how long a shelf-life Russell Brand has in Hollywood as his act thus far appears pretty limited, especially when the level of crudeness is reduced as it is here. Helen Mirren gives another great performance, but then is she capable of giving anything less? Jennifer Garner was decent in her role but I'm really just not a fan of her at all. Greta Gerwig, however, was fantastic and is the heart of the film. And she's a fox.

On a whole the story was decent and amusing if not memorable. There was a lot of unfulfilled potential here and that's probably the worst aspect of this film (if you can get past Brand's voice, that is), but there's nothing offensive about it. If there was, this might have been a better film, though. 7/10
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

From inside screen 3 we watched the whole wretched affair. On a normal premiere, the Zlebritys come in first then the talent. this was the other way round. So for the majority of the thing there was no one on the carpet, then one person at a time. We saw Helen and Taylor Hackford arrive by boat and Katy and Russell arrive by car and His Mum was there but no idea where she came from. When they got out the car, it looked very frosty between them. Then they were ushered by the minders to do what was requested of them. it was only when Russell did his own thing chatting to the kids that he seemed happy.

We had watched it all live, then they started showing the highlights again 8O I was about ready to run by that time. When the cast trooped in, which is a complete waste of time imo Russell spoke a few words, then they all rushed out. I could vaguely hear the walkie talkie's and people muttering about changing the goalposts so as it was running really late by then, I guess time was of an essence.
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

I got home after 1am last night thanks to tube trouble so I do not fancy making a journey back to London tonight to watch Wastwater, anyone interested in two tickets? The venue is Downstairs at The Royal Court Theatre, Sloane Square, London, United Kingdom SW1W 8AS. I will post the tickets in "offered" shortly.
