Kick-Ass
Re: Kick-Ass
I'm not a big fan of Matthew Vaughn as a director, but I still reckon this film should do its title justice...
It also does seem like a tailor-made movie for an actor like Nic Cage!
Watch the video that starts with him covered in black paint (the 8th one I think) if you want an idea of what I mean:

At any rate I think Cage is an excellent actor sometimes, and a mediocre one the rest of the time. He seems to balance meaningful films like Adaptation with popcorn flicks - most of the ones he's done are just poor. Kick-Ass will change that I think.
Interesting casting choice, Big Daddy is a bulky fellow in the comic. But the satire is amped up a bit in the film it seems so it could certainly work, in the sense that out of costume he'll be rather weedy.

Well all I meant is that it's far more fun to see Nic Cage doing films that require him to be bat-**** crazy than all those big Hollywood pics that he clearly doesn't care for but that help to p*y off his tax bills...
If you want another example of the whole 'Nic Cage effect' on a film, here's one where he makes another truly awful film seem weirdly interesting -
(and of course, there's also Bad Lieutenant which is yet to come out)

Re: Kick-Ass
Big Daddy is batshit crazy? I mean, you'd have to be pretty insane to be a superhero, but out of them all BD seems the most grounded. He may exist solely in a fantasy world where he's the good guy and he kills the "bad guys", but above all he's motivated by the desire to protect his daughter. You can find millions of people (especially Americans) who think along the same lines when they b*y guns.
But yeah, I agree about Cage.

I wasn't talking about the BD character specifically, just the type of quirky crazy films that hopefully Kick-Ass will turn out to be (like his early career with films like "Wild At Heart" and "Raising Arizone" being a case in point)
Re: Kick-Ass
According to the creator, Mark Millar, the sequel to "Kick-Ass" is going to be called "Balls To The Wall"
I would so love that if it stays that way...
