Oh I don't believe it! I had such a strong feeling that King's Speech would get Best Director too but I didn't go with my gut instinct as no one else predicted it! I nearly got all the big ones right!

Re: Oscars 2011
What a marvellous, unexpected outcome. Fantastic that "The King's Speech" has won not only Best Picture but also Best Director for Tom Hooper, which I did not expect at all but it's certainly a well-deserved win.
Not only that, but I'm incredibly, incredibly glad to see Wally Pfister winning the Oscar for cinematography for the first time in his career. Cinematography is such an underrated job, people never really realise sometimes that it's not the director solely who sets up the shots. He's been unnoticed by the Academy for all of Christopher Nolan's feature-length films which is a travesty of justice so I'm glad at that.
And obviously, Inception won most of the editing awards (sound mixing, sound editing, visual effects) and The Social Network deserved Best Editing for its constant jump-abouts in time. Toy Story 3 was obvious and still a well deserved win of the Best Animation Category. Colin Firth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Melissa Leo are all great actors and winners. Alice in Wonderland, though not having the best script, deserved its Costume Design Oscar, though I think the Art Direction award should have gone to Inception personally.
The only remote disappointment I have was with The Social Network winning Best Score. Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic score, but I just prefer Alexandre Desplat's score for The King's Speech; it's a wonderfully mellow, touching composition.
Despite this, a great evening and a wonderful success for the Brits. We're making a comeback, it seems.

Re: Oscars 2011
The results sound like a very nice fair distribution, no one film dominating which I always hate. I only wish Helene Bonham Carter won, not because she may be the best actress but because she would have given another amusing speach
Now to catch up with some Blu Rays and find out why the heck some of these films were nominated in the first place :)
Congrats to Kevinknapman for winning the predictions. I never bothered with giving it go once I saw he entered the comp

Here's the tally for film winners (excluding short films and documentaries):
The King's Speech: 4 (Best Film, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director)
Inception: 4 (Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing)
The Social Network: 3 (Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Score and Best Editing)
The Fighter: 2 (Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress)
Toy Story 3: 2 (Best Animated Film and Best Song)
Alice In Wonderland: 2 (Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction)
Black Swan: 1 (Best Actress)
The Wolfman: 1 (Best Make Up)
The King's Speech has come out with the best result but the other films (except True Grit with 0 awards) did well in comparison.

Re: Oscars 2011
How ridiculous is it that The Wolfman is an Oscar winning film and True Grit isn't?
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I was really happy that The Social Network won Best Score. I'm a big Trent Reznor fan.weirdfilms33 wrote: The only remote disappointment I have was with The Social Network winning Best Score. I'm really glad Inception won 4 Oscars, loved that movie. Christopher Nolan should have at least got a nomination for direction. Really thought Biutiful was going to win for the foreign language film. Congrats to kevinknapman for the predictions. Anne Hathaway presented the ceremony well and such a multitude of costume changes!
