Re: Oscars 2011
Well done to Kevinknapman. Most predictable competition win, perhaps?

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

Re: Oscars 2011
I'm not a huge Trent Reznor fan, but I was very happy that the academy took time to consider that the score for this film suited it perfectly and that a "usual" kind of score or one that used pre existing music would have worked in the same way. it was, actually the 1st thing that stood out to me about the film when i first saw it. i thought it was incredible.
i'm not that surprised that black swan only took home 1 award, i thought it was a good film but was carried soley by natalie portman's performance, which was completely outstanding.
i stayed up and watched it, i really liked anne hathaway presenting, she's so lovely to watch and seemed really bright and funny.
wasn't impressed with gweneth paltrow's singing mind you, pretty boring.

Re: Oscars 2011
Even though I've been rooting for The King's Speech, I've been quite surprised how it managed to become favourite to win the Oscars in the last 2 weeks of the campaign considering how strong a favourite The Social Network was initially and everything changed after the SAGs.
But it's always good to see an underdog win, so well done
Even better the Best Director went to Tom Hooper, otherwise we would be having the discussion did the Best Pic direct itself??

Nothing surprised me during the Oscars, except for Christian Bale's speech. He's Welsh!? Reminded me how surprised I was to learn Hugh Laurie was British, and that was during an awards speech too. How do you guys manage to sound more American than Americans?

Re: Oscars 2011
Britons have a history of playing Americans, or British villains in American films

Re: Oscars 2011
I'm used to Brits playing Americans, as we tend to know the actors. But, its the Australians that catch me out. There's a lot of them out there being American nowAziemah wrote:Nothing surprised me during the Oscars, except for Christian Bale's speech. He's Welsh!?
