Re: Tamara Drewe
Am I just in a grumpy mood at the moment or what, because I feel underwhelmed by pretty much all the films I've seen lately and this is no different.
The posters on the buses describe Tamara Drewe as the best rom-com of the year, but I'm afraid I just wasn't impressed. I didn't think Gemma Arterton was all that good, and I didn't believe her relationship with the old bore. I didn't really care what happened to her, as she wasn't a very engaging character and she had dubious moral principles (I'm really not an old age pensioner I promise!)
I also thought Dominic Cooper was awful as the drummer boy. The two teenage girls were the best thing in it, and got the most laughs. But I thought that some of the humour was in poor taste, and left me with an unsettled feeling. It's hard to explain properly what I mean without giving away some important plot points.
On the plus side, some of the scenery was gorgeous, and there were some strong supporting cast peformances.
I think I was looking forward to a story that lived up to the influence of Far From The Madding Crowd, but it was only vaguely reminiscent of it.
Only a 6/10 from me.

Re: Tamara Drewe
WEll I was totally underwhelmed in a near enough empty Whitelys. This was where we were supposed to seeing this on Sunday but it hadn't been booked in I guess that cos of the strike, most of the audience couldnt make it. I myself walked for about an hour to get there.
Anyway there was about 15 people in there, not many laughs apart from one loud guy who roared at everything and repeated some of the lines
I was trying to stay awake myself ( only the cold and the bright light behind me kept me going) The only things that made me laugh were the teenagers. All in all I thought it was plodding, miscast and could have been a far better TV show. TRevor Eve anyone?
5/10 for the girls and the boxer dog with a tail hehe

Re: Tamara Drewe
Saw this last night at Tottenham Court Rd Odeon, getting there was chaos! I walked as everything was so gridlocked, but there were so many people on the pavements all weaving in and out in a lost but purposeful way, was a bit scary and was glad when I made it there. Cinema wasn't very full at all.
I'm undecided about the film, I really liked the writer characters and the two teenagers, but like a few others have said, I found Tamara and her bf a bit vacuous, which is silly because the film is Tamara Drewe - lead character should be worthy of having her own film. Maybe the book develops the character more, but it felt like there was a lot more they could have done with her. The film kept my attention all the way through though and plenty of funny bits, some great performances but just not all of the characters. I love Tamsin Greig, though yowz she looked so much older - I'm hoping it involved some time in a make up artists chair as it seems a bit rapid!

Re: Tamara Drewe
Hi there just back in from seeing this @ Glasgow cineworld it was a rather pleasant film the two teenage girls and the downtrodden wife were by far the better characters and most convincing at their parts the film was however patchy.. diddnt realy have the feel of a big screen movie for me although i still enjoyed it i just wouldnt b*y the dvd for a girly night of giggles and wine
i took my other half with me but on reflection i think it would have been enjoyed more if i took my mother in law think its more a film for the oldies than 30 somethings

You just can't account for taste....
Re: Tamara Drewe
Hi i went to see Tamara Drewe last night, but i have to say i wasn't impressed. Like someone said above the laughs got less and less. there was even a scene in it where a dog got shot! i'm sorry but that's not comedy!
Re: Tamara Drewe
I enjoyed the film but found the end a bit strange! definitely unexpected, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth instead of being an end that was suitable for the rest of the film!
interesting nonetheless and i still enjoyed it!

Re: Tamara Drewe
i think the film got edited.
there was a build up towards a fight with cockney boy and country gardner man that didnt happen.

i wish I had tickets for there, I work 1 minute away, so it would have saved the long walk towards Queenswayjem&theholograms wrote:Saw this last night at Tottenham Court Rd Odeon, getting there was chaos!
