Tamara Drewe

#1 Post by superhero » Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:07 am

I was kindly invited by my friend to a screening of Tamara Drewe last night. It had some expectations, coming from the director who made The Queen, Mrs Henderson presents, Stephen Frears. However, he's gone more obscure recently with Cheri and now this....
It all started quite promising really, it felt like a charming quirky little British Comedy, but the laughs got less and less and the drama wasn't really that engaging in the end. It ended up more like a TV film in the end.
I hope they do change the name for the film, as Tamara Drewe is an awful name for a film and the "poster" I saw looks bad too. Let's hope they can edit the film abit more and jazz up the 2nd half. I doubt it though... and yes this film has Gemma Arterton in it again. She seems to be everywhere! 4.5/10 at the moment

Filled with lust and humour and starring Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia, Disappearance of Alice Creed) as the eponymous Tamara, the film is based on Posy Simmonds' well-loved graphic novel, which in turn was inspired by Thomas Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd.

Tamara Drewe's childhood home is being sold, and her return to the rural Dorset village where she grew up causes something of a stir. Having left as an awkward teenager she returns as a smouldering femme fatale with a glamorous job and a new nose, kicking up a storm of envy, lust and gossip wherever she goes. Torn between two lovers Tamara is the ultimate modern girl but her story of love and confusion is timeless.

To be fair, it's the best I've seen of Gemma Atherton (thats not hard comparing to Prince of Persia I suppose)

Wesman, I have pm (private message) you yesterday in answer to your wanted posting. I am assuming you do not know where to look for this, so at the top of this page, it should show new messages waiting and if you click on it - you should see your pm and can then answer me.

Hope this is clear! :P
