No goodie bag at Croydon.

The screening at Croydon was packed though. I must say what a great film, it was over 2 hours long and it flew by. I thought it was funny, heartfelt and sad(thankgod had a tissue). I truly believed for the characters and was rooting for a few of them.

Would definitely watch this again 9/10

That was another really good turn-up of FMUKers tonight at Islington... my friend was surprised when we realised that Beate kept us 2 seats and even more surprised when I started saying hi to almost everybody on the last 2 rows

I am so glad that i had decided to see this again!
The first time was last week at Framestore (followed by Q&A) and I think I was one of the rare person there that was not entirely convinced by the movie! I definitely put that on my rather gloomy mood that very day!

I just enjoyed and loved every bits of it tonight :)
(I also understand almost 90% of the dialogues this time!)

9/10 for this second viewing!

(and we all had goody bags at Islington; they were exchanging the Dermalogica thingie against our tickets at the entrance! turtle, my goody bag is for you girl!)

Just watched this at Vue Islington. They gave us some kind of moisturiser/dermatalogical creams & shower gel (or something like that). I just passed them onto my friend so she got an extra freebie. Was there some sponsorship that I missed cos I didn't see the relevance?

Anyway, the film was brilliant. I always like something with some historic value, and as a black man, its that little bit more meaningful in some aspects.

Moving & humourous, great performances all round. It's done big things in the States - already taken $125m dollars on a £25m budget. I hope gets the exposure over here that it deserves.

9/10

The screening (originally a competition, before SFF released more tickets yesterday!)was sponsored by Dermalogica
As an extra special treat all guests will also be given a very special gift from Dermalogica, one of the official brand partners associated with the film. Dermalogica is the World's number one choice of skin care professionals, and has teamed up with the much anticipated DreamWorks film, The Help, to recognise the transformative power of women within their communities, and across the globe.

Saw this at Watford tonight. The winning confirmation email/printout was taken away by the usher at the entrance, and then they were giving the free gift outside the screen. I guess everyone got a gift as there was no way to distinguish between winners and SFF ticket holders. A woman next to me asked to get a second gift set for her friend and they were having none of it. It's quite a nice little skincare set. What a well behaved audience! No mobile phones, no toilet trips, no whispering. It was pure silence at Watford, exactly how a cinema should be!

Still loved this on second viewing. The time flew by and I shed a few tears again. Octavia Spencer really is phenomenal as Minny and is the star of a fantastic ensemble cast. Chastain was wonderful once again, such a subtle and understated performance. Witty, sad and heartfelt, it hits all the right notes. This is one of my top 3 films of 2011.

Goody bags at Westfield and I came away with 3 for my Roadies and a couple for the lovely lady who gave me the tickets.

I've listened to the audiobook and I do urge anyone who loved the film to get a copy of the book from the library and read it as there is so much more in it. Obviously its hard to get everything in a film but this did come close.

For me, the film was a little too cosy and sweet, so a lot of the real meaning of what 'Coloureds' actually had to go through, didn't really come across. Its hard to beleive this was in my lifetime, not 100 years ago but 50 8O .

Having said that I did have a tear in my eye several times during the film. All the performances were top knotch, not a bad one amongst them. 9/10

A question for anyone who read the book
I seem to remember that Constantine's daughter could pass for white and that was why she was given away and adopted, and why it was not acceptable for her to come in the house as if she was white.
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Great to see so many FMUKers at Islington Vue tonight. Lovely goodies from Dermalogica too, they handed them out as we handed our tickets in. Thanks to hdaniel82 for the extra ticket so my friend can join us too - we managed to get you a goody box too! o/

It was even better the second time! I understood more this time and got the bits I missed. Excellent, really well acted, funny and heartwarming. 10/10

@Valda: the goody bags were on the seats then???
in our case I guess the ushers probably kept the extras (they were giving them as the entrance) from themselves as our screening was far from being full!!!

A_person you must have mine in thanks for all the tickets you are always sharing with us! I'll bring it to you next time we're at the same film.

Really enjoyed the film the second time round. I took a neighbour (now a friend!) and my daughter took a friend who were both astonished by the warmth of the FMUK crowd at Islington and the excellent film. The the goody boxes were a nice bonus.
