Re: Buried
They had 10 goody bags to give out at the beginning, someone read out seat numbers which caused great confusion and hilarity as there are no seat numbers printed so people had to count seats, LOL.

Re: Buried
The kid in front of me won one and turned his nose up muttering about crappy DVD's. It looked to be a few DVD's, various movie promotional stuff, maybe some caps and t-shirts.
I thought the film was great. I wasn't sure how they could sustain a whole film, just shot in a box, but it had me gripped from the off. I had to look away quite a few times as it was all getting a bit much for me. Ryan Reynolds acted his heart out, proving he's not just a bit of eye candy
, and he even managed to get a few laughs from the audience for some much needed relief from the tension. 9/10

Re: Buried
As much as I'd been looking forward to seeing Buried, in the back of my mind was the worry that a movie set entirely inside a coffin starring Ryan Reynolds couldn't possibly work for 90 mins. Even when the rave reviews started coming I wasn't quite convinced. I needn't have worried. Buried is an extraordinary piece of cinema.
Making the most of a limited setting, Rodrigo Cortez's film grips from start to finish. Technically it's quite brilliant. Effectively lit using a variety of sources (cell phone, lighter, torch and glow sticks) and with probably the best sound design of any film I've seen recently.
All this would be for nothing though if there wasn't a strong human presence at it's centre. After all Paul Conroy is on screen for the entire duration. Surprisingly Ryan Reynolds is more than up to the challenge. Quite possibly the best thing he's ever done in fact. His rather lame romantic comedies seem a distant memory. Reynolds really makes you care about Paul's predicament. So much so that by the end it becomes almost unbearable. Thankfully he gets a couple of moments of levity or it possibly would have been too much.
Buried is a movie where everything works. Tense, compelling and pretty much faultless. Easily one of the best films of the year.
