Well I really liked Tamara Drewe and highly recommend it. I thought the cast was great and especially liked Tamsin Greig in her Cath Kidston pinnies and drinking out of Emma Bridgewater mugs. She is the voice of Debbie Aldridge in The Archers (but I doubt if anyone else listens to such a radio programme!) so seems to my mind to be suited to country life.

I agree that the Q & A session was not inspiring and Stephen Frears didn't do much to help and seemed content to answer all questions with only a word or two. I wonder how he gets such good performances out of his cast if he is so non-communicative. (Beate, you've hurt my husband's feelings as you thought the questions were so boring as he asked one! Maybe you left before his because it was one of the more interesting ones.)

Oh this is priceless! I just realised which Premiere comp we've won! It's the one from New Look where you had to say who you would take to the premiere and why! I entered as myself saying George Clooney - as the OH's answer I put "I would take my lovely girlfriend as she deserves a treat!" That won. They probably think my OH is ever the romantic.
Funny though they're emailing already, according to the write-up the comp isn't over till the 27th...

I really enjoyed this. Not the most challenging or original film (it's story is pretty much a retread of 'Far From The Madding Crowd' after all), but a very solid and enjoyable one. It looked beautiful, the acting was spot on and the script sharp and very funny (I particularly liked Roger Allam's inventive swear word/food combination outbursts). Definitely worth a look.

I love reading all your reviews and totally agree with you all, beate, hdaniel82 and soonforgotten. I really enjoyed it. Very quirky, very funny, although a bit slow, but very much like far from the madding crowd. It was also a very good satire on the middle class and literary people. Thought all the characters were really well acted, especially the two teenagers who really made the film. In the Q&A, the audience asked how they found the girls for the parts. They said that as there were laws on what they can and cannot do, they had to hire 16 year olds that looked young. And from Day 1, how the girls really made the part theirs.

Unlike everyone else on here, I did find the Q&A interesting, and it was a shame that only one microphone worked. I did not know it was ejwrank's husband with the interesting question!

They did quipped at the beginning that it was unfortunate that Tamara wrote for the wrong paper! They talked about the cow scene and how they filmed the stampede. And that it was very true that most deaths were caused by dogs running loose. It seems the dog in the film got an award! Apparently, there was supposed to be another death, but Posy said that it would not have worked in the film. The film was based on Posy Simmonds' cartoon in the Guardian which became a book. She said she could not believe they managed to find the guy who played Andy, as he was exactly how she had drawn him. I also really agree with how Tamsin Greig became Beth, as she is a really beautiful actress, and I really like all that she has done.

The audience was actually very nice to Stephen Frears, as when the Guardian interviewer asked at the end if the audience actually liked it, they all said yes and clapped!

I was so glad my spare ticket went to Wesman's wife - who both really enjoyed it - as she had read the book and said it was very true to the book and kept much of the humour. It was lovely to meet and chat to you both.

It was also nice having all the FMUKers in the back row, 5rannoch, myself, milkchocmonkey, beate, and hdaniel82. Saw tilly and lovely to chat to ejwrank and meet your family too!

I am glad they were nice to the director, I always cringe when they do Q&As at the end and the director's moving to the front stage and half the audience is leaving the other way. I feel bad for the director!

yeah, I agree.. Its bad form to leave..

You watch the film for free, the least you can do is show the director some respect and stay for the Q&A

Thats why I curiously want to go and see The Last Exorcism's Q&A and see how many people stay and what they ask! But I do rate Stephen Frears alot, I would have asked him a question for sure!
