ejwrank wrote:Well I agree with Ethanrunt -- I hated the film. I thought it was dull and there was absolutely no feeling amongst any of the characters. I really was looking forward to this as the two leads Julianne Moore and Annette Bening are usually good but not in this. And it was all so predictable -- deadly boring and overhyped.

So glad I didn't p*y to see it.

It will be interesting to see what the critics say. Time Out has given it 5 stars and called it a "superb comedy-drama", whereas I'd say it was worth only 3 or 3.5 and has nothing superb about it.

I thought this was alright. The family feel was presented well, but no one besides the kids were sympathetic. And I really think they conflicts could have been resolved in a much neater fashion. What happened with the daughter and her friend after the party scene? What exactly was the deal with "Laser" (wtf? Did I miss the explanation for that?) and his friend, anyway? I did kinda feel bad for Mark Ruffalo's character by the end of it, but I dunno if that's what they were going for. All in all, it was a bit pointless but nothing too offensive to my intelligence and there was a fair amount of entertainment value in it. I think a 7/10 is fair, if not a bit too generous.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Wow, you did two films and a play today! Did you take a day off? Lucky you! o/ Anyway, next time then!

Got rubbish seats near the very front as the cinema was pretty full. Thought there were some funny moments and some good lines - hadnt heard of "Shut the front door!" before. Overall average entertainment value.

No worries. My mum and aunt were just organising putting coats in the second from side back row to save seats for you and your friend and OH when you waved.

Why did so many people come late and there were large groups too. I thought maybe a screening close by had been cancelled.

The seats were uncomfortable, they left the door open for ages, so we could hear noise from outside. I could barely see and then someone else came late and sat in front of me, she was tall so I could see even less. Then someone's mobile rang.

And those were the highlights... it got worse when the film started. We found it so boring (and uncomfortable) we left. Bit annoying really given all that's been happening on Emmerdale this week!
