Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Woke up way late so had to rush and run out the house without checking the Jubilee Line. Train person said it was alright so we got on at Canary Wharf only to be told about a suspension between Waterloo and London Bridge due to a fire alert, and trains going slowly. So we hopped off again and went back on the DLR, which all took rather long so we only arrived at the Odeon Covent Garden at 10.20am. I expected to see masses of people and all good seats gone so was stopped in my tracks a bit upon entering an almost empty cinema! How peculiar! Got our favourite seats at the back and enjoyed the low kids turnout and well-behaved adults.
The film is a solid 8/10 from us and no one wanted the 3D glasses back so we have 2 more to add to the evergrowing collection.
Agree that the 3D was not needed at all and made an already dark film look even darker in a lot of scenes. Eustace was the highlight of the film for me, very funny.

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Daughter and I enjoyed this in spite of freezing cold Holloway Odeon. Good to see some friendly FMUK faces there. Again I'm not sure why the need for 3D gimmick and yes it was brighter with glasses off but I thought it was too blurry to watch that way.
I'm sure no one will agree but I thought Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) looked like a young David Beckham. My daughter's Swedish friend is a great Ben Barnes fan and will be jealous we have already seen the film.

We loved it. I agree that Eustace was the highlight of the film. He was quite a character.
Yes it was freezing at the Odeon Holloway!
Why were there soo many latecomers!

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Saw this at the Odeon Swiss Cottage this morning (thanks Sunny Saver for the tickets) and the cinema was full. I'm ashamed to say we were late and snuck in five minutes after the start. My OH has not read or seen any of the Narnia series, but I loved the books as a kid and we both enjoyed it.
I agree with others that the 3D was a waste of time. I wish they would give it a rest. I tried taking them off but it was too blurry.
I thought some of the characters were a bit bland. Lucy and Edmund were quite dull and Prince Caspian was quite a flat character. Eustace was annoying in the beginning but got better, and he was a more interesting character.
I thought some of the visuals were excellent. I liked the scenes of the sea and I thought the Dawn Treader looked great.
It was a fast moving story with lots going on to keep both adults and kids entertained.
7/10

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
we were a few minutes late but only cos we had to wait at the box office to collect 3D glasses. If i'd known it was 3D i would have brought my own instead of waiting but it was still a great experience overall, besides the people i sat next to were much better than others in the screen.

Watched this today in a freezing Holloway screening room. Nice to see so many FMUKers there. Don't have anything to add to what others have said. It's an enjoyable family movie. 7/10

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
I managed to get to Wimbledon with 10 mins to spare, only to find out (not that the audience were told) that the film starts at 11am. I was told that is so people get there on time! So if you got there at 10am you still had an hour to wait and keep the kids entertained, no music or anything. I hope this isnt going to be a common occurence.
Anyway the film was ok, the actors weren't up to much apart from Eustace, he was very funny and right for the part.
I thought as per usual, that the 3D was unnecessary and not very good. it makes the film so dark, I really don't understand why the makers bother with it, unless its going to be top notch. Some of the CGI was dreadful, apart from Aslan and the mouse.
I hope they continue with the series as the books are so good, and without Harry Potter, there is a gap in the market now for childrens fantasy adventures

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
thats true. there are so many fantasy adventures they can choose to. although the conversion to the big screen isnt always successful. take stormbreaker or eragon for example.
I always liked the beaver towers as a little child. anyone else read them. that, if made properly, could be a great movie

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Saw this at wimbledon today and was disappointed to learn that the film was due to start at 11 and not 10:30am.
I thought the film was ok though quite predictable. I thought the boy who played Eustace was great as he played that character quite well. I am not sure I would want to see this film again as it seems that I have seen similar plots already. Wasnt sure the 3d was necessary but I guess they are trying to cash into that market.
overall 6/10 from me
