Re: The Dark Knight Rises
What an epic film. Had to sit in Edinburgh for a whole hour without any red carpet stuff - making whole thing 4 long hours. Felt first half of film dragged considerably and whilst loving the volume and actual feel of the sound effects, I found it very hard to decipher what both Bane and Bale were saying, Bane because he mumbled everything into that stupid face mask and Bale because he put on that stupid voice when not being Bruce Wayne. I did find it very difficult to understand what was going on and with constant references to previous films which I have either never seen or seen yonks ago and forgotten.
Things did pick up in the second half (or was it third third) and the action and pace made the film flow so much better. I loved the various twists in the (hole-ridden) plot and admit I never saw some of them coming.
I was particularly irritated by the cartoon aspect of the Batbike and Batcopter. They seemed to be animated in such a way that they had no credibility whatsover, not constraining in any way to our physical world. Yeah, of course they pretend, but motorcycles that appear to bend round corners, with wheels that don't need to rotate around central axles are more magic than Cinderella. At least Spiderman was believable.
I really wish I had refreshed with the first two in advance, and recommend anyone else to do so first. There is no way I could survive a marathon of all three back to back though. Not a hope.
Could easily have been over an hour shorter.
I'm gonna give this a reasonable 6/10.
Wouldn't rush to watch again anytime soon unless to try to make more sense of it.
IMAX rocks though! (Even if we only got miniIMAX in Edinburgh)
Oh - and what about the security? Purposely left phone in car, only to not only be frisked/ metal detected or have phones confiscated. Virtually everyone had there phone and was using them to text etc. during that long hour's wait. Nobody even turned them off.

note regarding security:
not going to say where i saw film, as don't want to drop anyone in it, but the security was a joke.
cinema staff collected tickets of first 50 in queue before sky rep showed up...no id checked.
sky rep shows, and cinema staff lie to her that id was checked.
sky rep then goes further down line & when first person without id stands up for themselves, rep backs off & does not check anyone elses id.
as for mobile phones, forget about it. no one was even asked to switch them off, never mind hand them in.
i hope no one missed out, because our screening was full.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
The IMAX at Odeon Swiss Cottage is so civilised! So glad to have a screening there. The sound was not loud - 02 listen up!
Security asked us to get our tickets and ID's ready but did not check mine. Told us if we wanted to make a call to step outside to do it, otherwise leave it off. It was not confiscated, although before the film started was warned again about mobile phones and they would be confiscated if anyone was found using them. They also weren't sure what to do about the SFF tickets. Nobody knew, not even the Sky rep, whether there were a separate queue or what, in the end the Sky rep just took everyone's tickets, and told everyone to enjoy the film!
To me it seems a typical Christopher Nolan: complex, but quite brilliant. What a lot of talented and dynamic cast, from Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway, who was also so gorgeous and engrossing. Those action sequences were fantastic and breathtaking. All my expectations exceeded! But the middle dragged a bit and I thought it was a bit too long and I could not understand some of the dialogue! 7/10
Lovely to see the the north contingents of FMUKers, valda, theones, funthing, ejwrank and david.

I absolutely LOVED this film! Then again, I am easy to please.
Bane's voice was very annoying though, also would have been nice to catch a glimpse of him without that mask before he died.
