Re: Gulliver’s Travels
To be fair I think that is the main fail of this film, unfortunately its a bunch of british greats with an american director who doesnt understand the lemonade he can make with his lemons, if it was an all round british film it would probably have turned out alot different!

Re: Gulliver’s Travels
an update of gulliver was a good idea, but this was only that, an update, with a script that felt silly (but could be funny) and the actors were directed to be melodramatic, like children's itv characters. It felt more like an episode of (modern) Doctor who than anything else. there has to be more gags you cvan do with this film esp with 3D in the 21st century.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Re: Gulliver’s Travels
And, was there any need at all for the 3D?
Re: Gulliver’s Travels
I took my son to see this yesterday despite protestation!! I would have rather have seen Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader but gave in in the end. I was as disappointed as I thought I would be unfortunately. It was, as was suggested to me beforehand, a "BIG" advertisement for Jack Black. As others have said the Orange advert slightly put me off beforehand and every time they showed it when I went to the cinema in the last few months, I did think they were actually going to show us the proper trailer. I did manage to see the trailer before I went yesterday and thought it would be a good film. Maybe Mr Black feels that he isn't getting enough publicity in Britain but I don't think this was the way to show us what he can do. The majority of the storyline was shown in the trailer so I really need not have bothered. I also thought the British actors chosen would have made it better but they didn't. I haven't read up on the information regarding production costs, where it was filmed or anything like that but it certainly looked like it didn't cost much. Thankfully we didn't bother with 3D.

Re: Gulliver’s Travels
Went to watch this on Boxing day. Got there at 10:20am, to go straight to the usher, only to be told I need to go back to get glasses. So I went back to get glasses while they refused to give me glasses and told me I can't get intot the screen because the duty supervisor said no. I was like but it's not 10:30 so I don't see what your issue is. I could tell they completely sympathised with me which is why they kept telling me to go speak to the duty supervisor. Eventually went back to the ushers who then asked the duty supervisor who wasn't sure until I pointed out a) there are defo seats upstairs b) it doesn't start until 10:30am c) it's 10:29 because I've been busy trying to get in but been told no for ten minutes. Eventually he let me through but I then had to run back to get 3D glasses again! Grrrrr.
So by the time I got up and went into the screen, I missed the first two minutes. They also claimed that the screenings was packed out but when I got there it was about 80% full. The front rows were empty and there were seats in between people that were empty. Only annoyed me more. I hate missing even one minute of a movie and to have to miss it for nothing made me want to put my fists through this dumb supervisor's face. I was very shocked to see loads of kids under 8 at the screening. Do kids of that young age really understand such humour? Also was sitting in front a kid who kept kicking my seat.
I didn't think the movie was great. Definitely yet another waste of 3D. I found it completely pointless and would have very much preferred a 2D version - headache at the end of the movie. The movie should have one straight to DVD though. I don't think this is worth p*ying for and certainly not with all the hype it got. It was very predictable, certainly funny in some places (especially putting out the fire scene) but considering this time last year, we had Sherlock Holmes released as the Boxing Day movie.... this just doesn't compare. It is a tacky Christmas movie which would be very well watched in pyjamas on a Sunday morning at home!

Re: Gulliver’s Travels
Ahhh I went to see this Yesterday at the Silverlink... jammed packed. Afer seeing and hearing some of the reviews I was not expecting too much from this. However I did enjoy it... typical Jack Black character.. daft comedy and really light entertainment which was well and truely needed .. loved James Corden in it. As for being in 3d is was not needed but after about 10 mins of any 3d film I never really notice it anyway.
7/10 from me :O)
