Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Avengers may be simpler than TDKR and infinitely less complex, but who cares about that? The execution was spectacular! We all walked out with massive smiles on our faces because it was just such a rollicking fun ride! Simplicity conveyed coherently with genuine visual magnificence.
Spiderman was just a piece of shit all round.

im no fan of Spider-Man, but perhaps a little harsh.Jayman wrote:Avengers may be simpler than TDKR and infinitely less complex, but who cares about that? The execution was spectacular! nothing wrong with being less complex, it was out and out action bar a big dip around 1/3 of the way in. Avengers did what it said on the tin, but afterwards its nothing more than a loud action film, imo it wont last test of time, because there will be many more louder and and better CGI action scenes, whereas the Batman films have terrific dramatic elements and so on that can stand the test of time.
making transactions on behalf of wayne industries (using bruce's stolen fingerprints for verification) that are bound to fail, thus bankrupting wayne industries, leading to takeover by that baddie who bane was apparently working for......and breathe.
What if Wayne Manor, now a home for orphans, actually became Xavier's mansion eventually? Marvel/DC crossover?
Re: The Dark Knight Rises
No it's not ambiguous - just ridiculous the way the events are presented to us. (We discussed this a few pages back)
tonethestone wrote:thats great, thanks, i ... Re: The Dark Knight Rises
ending seemed straight forward enough, however implausible.
auto pilot plot told you that bruce had fixed it, therefore can use it, therefore does & escapes blast.
meeting up with alfred also foreshadowed earlier in movie.
but to be honest, i don't think nolan gives a damn, as witnessed in inception. if he leaves loose ends, he claims that he meant to. i wonder how long he will get away with this in future
Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I was at Manchester IMAX last night to see this and maybe felt slightly foolish arriving so early - the staff were calm, organised, and helpful and the queue was short and there were rows of empty seats once we were in. Still it would have been terrible to have been turned away after the scramble for tickets and anticipation to see the film and my first IMAX film at that.
After the film I felt exhausted, partly due it being a long day, but mainly because of the driving, pounding score and the dense, relentless film - it certainly doesn't feel 3 hours.
It's certainly spectacular and never drags, the opening scene in particular is outstanding, but I did feel a bit underwhelmed. TDK's villains were a lot stronger and worked so well with the TDK's storyline, this despite the backstory and explanation just seemed like endless brutality and destruction. Batman was also sidelined for huge portions of the film and it seemed more like we were watching John Blake Rises at some points
As good as JGL was I could have done without John Blake/Robin, who just seemed there for franchise reasons - wasn't this supposed to be a definitive conclusion to the trilogy
Catwoman was excellent, as were all the performances even Tom Hardy behind the Bane mask, and it was nice to be able to understand him after the inaudible preview.
I certainly prefered the first hour and the last hour more as they seemed better paced and more focused respectively (despite the finale's echoes of Bond and 24). The middle seemed to have too much going and was a bit rushed, maybe a 4hr hour version or a split in the film could have helped?
at the point Batman ends up in the pit?
Overall very good, but I was keener to rewatch Avengers after seeing that.
And good to see everyone there and glad we all made it in, thanks to Diane65 for the fruit salad helping keep our energy up for the long movie ahead.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
ok cool, thanks. i loved the ending, didnt think it was ambigous either, seems odd people think it is in some way. Think those that are saying its daft who Alfred see's Bruce at that particular time at a particular cafe is crazy, could be a number of reasons he knew where to meet him, not everything needs to be explained and spelt out.
Jayman wrote:
No it's not ambiguous - just ridiculous the way the events are presented to us.
