Better still, if you're late, go home. I personally hate watching a film if I've missed the start so if it's 6.45 and I'm still not at the cinema, I leave it. It says on the tickets no addmittance after the film has started, is that so hard to police? Why should a few late individuals spoil the viewing for others.rjhempel wrote:Like many of you, I also had to put up with latecomers asking us to move, which we didn't, blocking the screen, being noisy and disruptive.
I also agree if you are late, then come in, make no noise and sit where you can. If you are late, you don't get a choice, you want a choice of where to sit arrive early. It would be better if the cinema didn't allow people in after the movie starts.
I have written a complaint to both Cineworld and showfilmfirst, though I doubt any good will come of it.
The movie was reasonable, expected more I guess from the reviews, but not a bad night out

Re: The Kids Are All Right
By the way, the film was mostly dull, slept through a good half hour of it. Cinema was terrible too, I've watched several films at Cineworld Shaftesbury Ave... I'm yet to enjoy the experience. If it's not outside noise louder than the movie, it's a non existent incline.
When the design the seating, do they not consider these things?
4/10 for the film

I've written to Cineworld, Trocadero complaining about them letting people come in 15-20 minutes into the film. Not expecting much but who knows....
Agree with don_datta that if I'm late for a film, I turn back. Couldn't imagine why anyone would want to come into a film 15 minutes late.

Does anyone know why there were so many of them? It was as if another screening had been cancelled and everyone sent to our showing!

Re: The Kids Are All Right
I've never seen so many latecomers at a screening as there were at the Trocadero, and they were all so noisy and selfish. None of them shut up as they came in - despite the fact the film had clearly started, they all seemed intent on trying to make people move seats so they could sit with their friends, instead of just going nearer the front and sitting down quietly. And on top of that they kept leaving the door open and it was really noisy outside (why is it so damn loud in the corridors of that cinema anyway?!). Being in screen 2 I think I also felt the shudder of tube trains underneath a few times as well. But what really took the biscuit was the person whose phone rang for ages. They should have been thrown out.
Anyway, as for the film, neither my OH or I liked it at all. We found it really plodding, didn't find any of the leads particularly convincing, and were wondering if it was ever going to end. By the end Mark Ruffalo's "blurgh blurgh blurgh blurgh" monotone voice started to grate as well. I think it will have to be a 4/10.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
Agree with everyone else about the appalling experience of cinema-viewing at the Cineworld, Shaftesbury Avenue. I’m now not sure whether the awful environment contributed to me not enjoying the film, or whether the fact I wasn’t enjoying the film made me more annoyed with the latecomers/foyer noise/really loud mobile phones ringing for ages etc
I was so disappointed with this film. There were some funny bits, and some sweet bits, but overall I was really disappointed. I was looking forward to a film that had a lesbian married couple at the centre of the plot, without politicising the fact that they are married and they are both women. In that sense, the film delivered, and the normality of their everyday lives with the ups and downs of a long-term relationship were depicted very well and that is pleasing to see in a mainstream film. However, I felt really let down by the idea that a woman who has been married to her female partner for 20ish years would suddenly ‘go straight’ and have an affair with a bloke. Jules’s gleeful reaction to Paul’s c**k when she pulled his flies down just made my wife and I look at each with despair. It made me angry actually. Jules wasn’t described as bi-sexual. She didn’t seem to regret her affair. I also found it completely cold and offputting to watch a sex scene between the female couple where Jules tries to pleasure Nic under the duvet while Nic watches gay male porn. I would imagine that lesbians who get off by watching gay male porn are in the minority. I found the idea of it quite unpleasant and distinctly unsexy.
My companions felt sorry for the Paul character, and he was indeed made out to be a nice guy who craves a family. Aaaah. He was well portrayed by Mark Ruffallo. But hang on, he completely screwed up this ready-made family for the sake of getting his leg over, so how much sympathy does he really deserve. And why should he become the central focus of the film anyway.
The director Lisa Cholodenko (who is a married lesbian herself, and directed episodes of The L-Word) was interviewed recently saying she’s delighted to see something representing her own life on the big screen. Really – is that her life? I think she has been involved in doing a disservice to the many ordinary lesbian couples out there who are crying out for positive representation and this film is a real missed opportunity that has done nothing to help overcome myths and ignorance about lesbian sexuality.
Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhh.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
I was still in the cinema at that point, so saw this. I found it distasteful as it appeared to me that Nic didn't really enjoy it or welcome it. If it had been a man doing it to her, people would be shouting rape or something similar.cheekyweelassie wrote:... I found it weird that a lesbian would get off on gay male porn too. It would have been more believable if it were lesbian porn.

Yes, I did say that too that I thought this odd. Even the son asked them why they were doing this and Nic got angry and Jules gave some wooly answer that meant nothing.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
hey, everyone, it is a comedy drama, and a lot of comedy do exaggerate and seem far fetched, I may have a very warped sense of humour as I took this scene lightly as I thought they were trying to see the funny side to it - what a couple, whether gay or not, may do while one watches porn, be it gay or otherwise! I just thought all the scenes that may seem unbelievable is suppose to be the comedy in the film. LOL I also think Jules did regret her affair, when she made that emotional speech, that marriage is not easy, etc. LOLSunny Saver wrote:I was still in the cinema at that point, so saw this.
