Re: The Dark Knight Rises
TDKR was originally estimated to gross over $200 million in the US over the weekend, but because of the shootings the estimate is now down to $165 million. I doubt that the movie will gross the same as The Dark Knight now ($533 million). Isn't it ridiculous and awful that people can just walk into a cinema and do that. Hopefully, this'll stop Americans from having the right to own weapons.

gotta hope americans could sort out there gun laws but doubt anythings gonna change, cant wait to see this film, dark night was one the last films i really enjoyed and watched a few times :)
Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I heard that WB is not releasing figures until Monday morning (out of respect).
Even Box Office Mojo is currently reporting only $30 mill and that's exclusively from midnight screenings.

Yes, they won't be 'officially' reporting them but this site is known for being correct with their grosses.

I really enjoyed the film but was a bit surprised that we had to wait an hour with a blank screen, you can't really complain though when you are seeing such a blockbuster film for free and in Cardiff we saw it in the IMAX :) I had not seen the first two films so watched them on the Tuesday night. Although the film was quite long it did not drag for me.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Finally getting my words together and can't disagree with this. Also caught this at the o2 but managed to get the balcony seating... rather comfortable and was quite packed but some single spares scattered on the edges. View was good and beats the seating i had for Spiderman which was a neck-ache and not welcomed.Jayman wrote:Watched this at the 70% full O2 tonight. Not exactly chock-a-block due to the ID checking system perhaps?
The movie was great...but (and it pains me to be odd one out again), it was nowhere near as good as The Dark Knight. Personally, I enjoyed even Batman Begins a bit more. I found the first and last thirds of this to be equally epic, but the middle portion left a (relatively) great deal to be desired. Thought some of it was a tad too reminiscent of the first chapter, a little too rushed and not all that interesting either.
But to the film, this was by no means a terrible film but certainly not great. The Dark Knight was epic. The characters, the plot, the dialogue all just seemed to work. TDKR just seemed a bit too dramatic. More drama than action adventure which in some circles is not a bad thing but when its Batman, its hard to justify all the drama.
There certainly was a lack of action and can only really think of two major scenes throughout the film... which was rather disappointing. I could be wrong but when I can only think of two its not a good sign.
Tom Hardy was great and if you wanted to be picky you could tear the direction to pieces...
Bane is meant to be bigger, taller than Batman but there are a number of scenes where they're of equal height etc.
Catwoman was good as well but there were times when I though Hathaway was mis-cast. But she held her own at times and pulled it off.Jayman wrote: As for Tom Hardy...well...he's a far better actor than what he had to work with. On the other hand, displaying emotion with half of one's face covered isn't exactly the easiest feat, so no grudges there. And for all you guys moaning about his incoherence let me just tell you, if you'd heard what he sounded like at the prologue shown last December, you'd be damn grateful. They cleaned up his dialogue BIG TIME! I managed to understand about 98% of his lines. That's over a thousand percent improvement.
Indeed, keep thinking back to TDK and how mind-boggling that was... particularly given the way Heath Ledgers character stole the show. Have already spread to the word to many and there's been some mixed reactions, but that was expected.Jayman wrote:Still, as negative as much of this sounds, it's only meant to sound this way because of the greatness it had to live up to. It's an extremely worthy sequel, a fiery conclusion to an emotional and powerful trilogy. A chapter I will strongly recommend to all my friends, but not one I'm likely to revisit as many times as its predecessors.
I'm going to give this a 7.75/10
There's been a lot of trudge out there but this does rise above it.
The only problem is now waiting for the next blockbuster.... almost seems like there's not much coming around soon...

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
This one may have been violent, but personally, I find psychological violence harder to watch - the suggestion of what Heath Ledger's Joker might have done off air was more gruesome for me than anything actually captured in the second film.
We didn't particularly enjoy the premiere footage at the O2, but I can see how sitting through nothing would have been even more dull!
Not a Batman fan, but I did enjoy TDKR. What happened in America was sad, but I hope it doesn't stop people from seeing the film.

I hope you don't think I'm referring to the Michael Keaton/Val Kilmer/George Clooney affairs...Jayman wrote:Brave, dude! Me thinks it'll "rise" above Batman
I was merely referring to the character, Batman....
