Wow, the Guardian reviewer does NOT like this! He has given it one star (on a scale of five) and demolished it. I've never even seen the word he uses - "moviemercial" - is it a neologism? Nevertheless, on the basis of reviews here I'd still give it a chance.

Haven't rated this film yet! I am giving it 7/10. It's quite an uneven film isn't it, I was actually bored when it tried to be a comedy at the start and it got more interesting when it became more of a drama. There's just something about Jake Gyllenhaal, I just can't take him seriously, but Anne Hathway was quite good, much better/believable than her lauded performance in Rachel Getting Married

I wasn't comfortable with this film.To me it seemed to be trying to be several different types of film, crow barred together to make one uneven film.
I notice from the trailers that is sort of looking all fluffy and romcom but that's not what the film was to me.
I didn't need the ubiquitious nerdy/fat friend brother or whatever he was. All those masturbation jokes belong in the gross out type of movie.
I felt the nudity didn't look natural, to me it looked better than the usual draped sheets but for me it wasn't fitting.

The actuall story or stories were good and should have been concentrated on more in my opinion.

6/10
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Tried to see it for free today at Odean Derby tickets and email all said 11:00 we got to cinema around 10:40 and it had started at 10:30, so didn't bother watching a film a good 10 mins into it.

I saw this film earlier today at the Odeon Silverlinks. The place was packed! Luckily we got there early, and had our choice of the Premiere seats. o/
The film started more or less on time, with no ads or trailers, and I've got to say I loved every minute of it. It is an entertaining film, but curiously is a mix of three different genres - a romantic comedy, a tearjerker love story, and a historical drama revolving round the advent of a certain little blue pill to the American drugs market. Something for everyone then. Throw into the mix, a fair amount of naked bodies and sex - well, say no more.

The leads, Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway were excellent, and ably supported by many other actors, including Oliver Platt and Hank Azaria.

9/10 from me - easily the best I've seen this month.

I had the same experience today at Kingston so wasn't able to see the film. That was bad enough but I had left home before 8.30 am for what I understood to be an 11 am start and because engineering work had overrun, it took me 4 trains, and over 2 hours' travelling time, to get to the cinema - at which stage I thought I was still early for 11 am, not late for 10.30 am.

Quite a crowd of other disappointed people gathered and I asked that the film be re-started at 11 am but the staff refused as it would mess up their schedule for the whole of the rest of the day. I could see that over the door they were already advertising a different film for 12.30 pm so that was probably true but didn't improve my mood on top of the journey I'd had.

We all trooped back to the foyer and queued up for a free ticket and the irritation wore off once I hit the shops but the plan was to see a film first and make a day of it - I wouldn't have gone all that way just for some shopping. I'd already checked and seen that there was absolutely nothing else worth seeing at that cinema that day, even if I stretched a point - otherwise I'd have gone straight into a replacement film.

Whether it's worth seeing or not, I shan't be giving this film another chance!

I finally got round to seeing this today. Just what I needed after Christmas - a great rom-com with some really great acting. Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway played the roles really well although occasionally Anne Hathaway's doleful eyes reminded me of Puss in Boots from Shrek!! Putting that aside, it was a really good film, just the right amount of schmaltz for me and also some nudity which was quite tasteful apart from a particular scene at a pyjama party involving the character of Josh (played by Josh Gad) which really did not need to be in the film - the character himself it was a bit overplayed throughout in fact. I think the subject of Parkinson's Disease was really well covered in this film. It was interesting to see it from the various angles as well: doctor, drug rep/boyfriend, sufferer(s) and carer/spouse. This finished off my free previews this year quite well. With thanks to Kevin Knapman for getting me involved in FMUK this year. I may not have posted as many times as I should have (this will change next year) but have enjoyed the films. Roll on 2011 - and Tangled on 9th Jan. :thanks:
