Re: Dear John
Saw this on Tuesday at an almost full Silverlink - 90% plus I would estimate.
I quite liked the film and thought the story was OK if a little predictable. Richard Jenkins gave a very sensitive portrayal of John's quirky numismatist father. The relationship between John and his father is what made the film for me - much more interesting than the developing relationship between John and Savannah.
Amanda Seyfried (Savannah) gave quite a strong and believable performance in the first part of the film but I felt that this sort of stopped somewhere along the line. By the end of the film I thought she was pretty poor.
The film soundtrack was enjoyable too with one or two quite exceptional tunes. Even the song that Amanda Seyfried composed and played herself seemed to fit quite naturally into the film.
I give this one 8 out of 10.

Re: Dear John
I finally saw this film this morning at Boldon. I enjoyed the film but it was rather slow, particularly the beginning and felt my self nodding off on occasions. However, the 'birthday party' people in the row behind made sure I didn't, which was just as well I suppose.
Unlike The Last Song, I was not moved to tears at all - not one. I think the acting was largely one-dimensional, with the exception of Richard Jenkins. The relationship between father and son was portrayed better than the romantic relationship between John and Savannah.
I have not seen Channing Tatum in any other films, and, although very handsome, and good to look at, he lacked a certain something on screen.
I have not read any Nicholas Sparks' novels. Are they all in the same vein?
7/10 from me.
(I think I'll give this genre a rest for a while, and get into some action with IronMan2, The A-Team and Robin Hood.

Re: Dear John
There's nothing much new to add, but I must say what a very weak ending! First half definitely much better. 5/10

Oh I didn't know this film was directed by Lasse Hallström until the opening credits rolled. What a surprise....

Re: Dear John
Saw this the other week but have only just had chance to visit and say that we thought it was good...
I was affected by it, I didn't cry, but for some reason I felt quite moved by it....and the girlfriend loved it.
7/10 from us.
