BFI all-nighter

#1 Post by weirdfilms33 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 11:18 pm

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm sure the lightening-quick speed of Beate will correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, after entering numerous competitions pessimistically, I decided to actually b*y tickets to the BFI IMAX's Batman All Nighter - showcasing "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" all in one evening starting at 23:59 PM.

I was extremely excited about this as I have never attempted to stay up this late - or this early - before. Having to ignore numerous news stories about heart conditions from sitting down too long and the various negative effects of tiredness, I found solace in the fact that they're giving out free tea and coffee... which suits me.

I also saw that they were having a fancy dress competition to win some ultra-cool prizes; so, like an ultimate movie geek, I set out today on an odyssey to find a Joker Costume. I picked up a pair of purple trousers from Uni Qlo for £2.99 and a jacket from a charity shop which matched the colour. I also managed to procure some face paint, which is uber-important, obviously.

Has anyone ever been to one of these events, and if so, what are they like?

Something similar was done with a back to back of all the Lost episodes at the Prince Charles Cinema and some of the FMUK members went. Here is a thread about it and what happened:

I heard 3 people were hospitalised, out of 100, so pretty safe odds you will be fine.
Good luck.

Yes but the Lost showings went on for a number of days as I recall and you weren't allowed to take any provisions (food!) in with you. They had periodic short breaks when you could race around and b*y some (fast) food. No wonder some people were ill.

Batman at the BFI is just 1 all nighter and I'm sure you will absolutely fine, weirdfilms. Also the BFI should be more comfortable than the Prince Charles which to my mind is like an oddly sloped dungeon.

Baahahaha... I have to agree with that. Well, yes, we are taking various provisions and pillows and sticks to poke each other with if we fall asleep. I actually can't wait.

EDIT: Oh, and expect a very protracted anecdote about the experience next sunday o/

This does sound really good fun, at least you will be comfortable with your pillows! Have fun.

I'm sure it's fine when you are 14. Like a sleepover at a mate's house. At my age not getting to sleep for a night would destroy your inner clock for a week.

Hahahaha, I'm sure you could do it Beate! It's just like a week of free previews... all at once. Anyway expect some photos of me dressed up as the Joker on the tube.. much hilarity will abound!
