I really really enjoyed this. It plays out like a much more successful Love Actually - interconnected romantic storylines. It works much better by focusing in a closer knit group of people so there is much more character development. Going into this, I was expecting a heavy drama, so I was pleasantly surprised that this had plenty of humour and genuinely funny moments (the final act when all the overlapping stories come together is hilarious). The ending was ever so slightly cheesy but in Carrell's hands, it never became cringeworthy.

Gosling looked gorgeous and he can take me home any time  and he played Jacob with an air vulnerability masked with overconfidence and womanising. The child and teen actors did a good job. Moore and Carrell are excellent and I think make the film so heartfelt, their characters deal with all the heartfelt and emotional scenes. I was surprised to see Emma Stone in this (she seems to be in everything and is really making a name for herself) and she is definitely showing versatility in her roles. There's not much to say about Josh Groban's cameo.

An excellent film that expertly handles budding teenage love, family dynamics and adult relationships with both seriousness and humour coupled with brilliant performances. 9/10.

I agree. I didn't know much about the film before going in, but had heard good things so was excited to get a chance to see this.

If I'm honest, I always like Steve Carell a lot more when he is playing this type of comedy/drama role (such as he did in 'Dan in Real Life'). He has that very 'hangdog' look and finds and plays the good mix of pathetic and sympathetic. I enjoyed Ryan Gosling in a more comic role than I've seen him in before. Jacob was both entertaining but with hidden layers so that his storyline - when it comes around - makes his transistion more believable.

The climax of the film (the garden scene) was just hilarious and had the audience laughing out loud in their seats. So much going on, and so many crossing plots that the way it came together was just perfect! The ending was a bit cheesy but didn't deter from the overall enjoyability of the film.

Do definitely recommend giving this a watch!

Yeah it's an awful title but with Steve Carell on board I'd like to see it.

I thought I posted my review here but guess I forgot:

I am not normally a huge fan of Steve Carrell but I love Emma Stone and Josh Groban and was really excited to see this movie. I wasn't disappointed as it was a thoroughly enjoyable rom-com. The garden scene towards the end of the movie was particularly fabulous, you will know it when you see it. It was just so unexpected (though I probably should've seen it coming) and ridiculous, mostly everyone in the cinema cracked up while watching it.
