Your Sister's Sister

#1 Post by Yinster » Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:38 pm

Apparently tonight's showing at the Glasgow Film Festival was the U.K premier of this film. I had tried to read up on this before going to find out something about it but there isn't that much just yet online. Not like mainstream films.

I would said this is pretty indie and would do better with picturehouse audiences than multiplexs ones. It wasn't longer than 2 hours. We are not sure cos we had speeches before but I think it was about 1 hour 45 at most. There are three main characters in this and for the most part you ever see them. There isn't much of a soundtrack either.

It is a story of family and friendships/relationships and I do know most of the scrip was improvised by the actor and actresses. There is two sisters Iris and Hannah and then there is Jack who is best friends with Iris. There were a lot of laugh out minutes in particular from the start to first wee while before it gets to the heart of the story. I am not sure whether we laugh out more cos everyone else was doing it but we did. I could tell when the film would finish too though OH couldn't. And the director explained why the film stop the way it did.

It isn't out till late spring over here so hopefully some of you will see it too. 6/10

This is out later this month, but I caught it last week thanks to the ever-so-incorrect EthanRunt (;])

Here's my take on this one: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/06/07 ... rs-sister/

I want Emily Blunt to be my best friend.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

We met jojojoanne this morning - actually we met her before but we never knew her name! Cinefila1 was there too and hdaniel82 and OH sneaked in slightly late but still during the trailers. And I had someone I don't know but seen around comment on "Oh you got your favourite seats!" :shifty:

Difficult to describe this film. It's indie and very talky and very little actually happens. It's basically a play with three people in it who find themselves thrown together in a remote cabin, and awkwardness ensues. The performances are good and some scenes are funny but altogether I found it boring, and the abrupt ending had not just me gasp in disbelief. I kind of wanted to know! I also thought that Hannah's actions were morally reprehensible and she's just lucky to have such an understanding pair of people there. I couldn't help but compare it to Safety Not Guaranteed, the other Mark Duplass film I have recently seen, which is just so much better.

When we came out I heard a woman loudly exclaim "We just saw a free film and it was the worst film we have ever seen!"

Wouldn't go so far but maybe 6/10

Boring self-indulgent claptrap. Terrible film.

Hackney Picturehouse had the volume too high (it started out fine and then snapped up loud) and the temperature too warm. And why do Picturehouses make us find our seats in the near dark?

Greenwich only dimmed the lights at 11am but yes it was quite warm, probably because the air con took a while to get going. And I always have my ear plugs in anyway.

'Officially' met Beate and OH this morning!! We've spoken on previous occasions while waiting to be let into the cinema, but didn't realise who eachother was!!

I enjoyed "Your Sister's Sister". Although not much happened, it was a believable story.

The volume at the Gate was also so loud that I felt in need of earplugs, but I guess that was one way in keeping the audience awake!
Only Woody Allen can pull a script like this, of course there would be a lot more characters to fill in the long gaps...............
3/10

I watched this at Clapham Picturehouse. I am not a fan of indie films generally but I LOVED this film, it was funny, it had a great script, really good actors and it was very well directed. I enjoyed it throughout. Normally I get bored with slow films, but this one even though slow, with not much happening and most of it just been dialogue, had me immersed in it. I can only say well done to the cast and crew of the film. 10/10.

P.S. Half of the viewers arrived late to the screening, causing distraction to the ones who arrived early. It could not be more annoying or selfish. I can understand this when the preview is at 6:30pm and you are running late to get there from work but not on a Sunday morning and with a not so early start of 11am. So you are not allowed to check your phone because the light is supposed to distract people for like one second and then you get loads of people allowed in late and we have to miss 5-7 min of the film :nono: :nono:
