Lawrence of Arabia

Wow, I had no idea that this film is nearly 4 hours long with an intermission! But what an impressive epic, a real cinema experience. This is such a stunning and captivating film and Peter O'Toole was so good as T E Lawrence, and I had no idea he was a real person. Actually I had no idea what the film is about or anything really. And unbelieveable that he had survived the war only to end up by the way he did on a country road! This is one quality classic. A gripping character study, and one that has to be watched on the big screen, to really appreciate the cinematography in full glorious colour. 10/10

I just noticed this thread and wanted to reassure you that you were not the only one who saw this for the first time in the cinema recently! I'd seen other epics like Ben-Hur and Spartacus on TV and they were impressive enough, but I just never got round to b*ying the DVD of Lawrence of Arabia - and I am so glad that I didn't. This is an astonishing film, one that as you said has to be watched on the big screen to be fully appreciated. I adored every minute of it, its magnificent settings, its tour-de-force direction and its gripping and ambiguous portrayal of T.E. Lawrence. I've never seen a film like it, something in the epic tradition that is simultaneously a real character piece, based on truth! The two-minute sequence when Sherif Ali emerges from a desert mirage is just beyond words. 10/10

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

But there was something about the film that just struck me when I left the cinema, and not a day has passed when it has not entered my mind.
Just saw your blog, weirdfilm33: http://jacobthehobnob.wordpress.com/201 ... of-arabia/
