Just back from tonite's world premiere at Odeon Leicester Square. Sly Stallone, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kellan Lutz and Jason Statham were the cast members in attendance, all obviously enjoying themselves immensely.
Ridiculous though it all is, this third instalment in the franchise is a lot of fun. The humour is knowing (at times this is a really very funny film for fans of movie in-jokes) and nobody takes themselves too seriously whilst creating all the carnage, blowing an awful lot of stuff up and despatching whole battalions of supposedly crack soldiers whilst barely suffering a scratch.
Interesting roles for new team members Wesley Snipes and Antonio Banderas, both of whom play it well, and more than expected screen time for Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson and (I thought a rather frail looking) Harrison Ford.
Well worth a look if you enjoy this sort of thing.

Re: The Expendables 3
this is probably the least worst of the Expendables trilogy.
Quite why we've got to a trilogy when the first two were utter pants, I don't know. But on current trajectory of quality, Expendables 5 should be a decent flick. Here we get the occasional attempts at writing a script, whereas previously the actors appeared to be making up their lines on the spot. Figured into the improvements this time are a handful of effective actors - Snipes was genuinely fun to watch (yes, the acting is that medicore that Wesley's performance is the best one) . Another ok addition to the cast was Rousey who was attempting to channel a smokey Jennifer Lawrence (and actually there is more than a passing physical resemblance between the two, so perhaps that wasn't such a laughable idea). Mel Gibson, promptly picking up another facelift paycheque, proved once again he makes a great bad guy. And then there was Banderas, opting wisely for a full tilt comedic role.
All we need now for the next movie is a plot, a complete script and to refine the generally crap fight sequences. And include villains who don't die utterly stupidly - generally they are so inept that you could send in a gang of cub scouts to replicate the success of the Expendables.
Scharwzenegger doesn't look well in this movie. I hope there nothing wrong with him.

Re: The Expendables 3
Thought this was reasonably entertaining and marginally better than the two previous instalments.
Typically the cast members of these films just phone in the non action portions of their screen time so it was a surprise to Mel Gibson take his role quite as seriously as he did. Consequently he was easily this movie's stand out performer but Antonio Banderas did at least try to give him some competition and delivered a pretty entertaining performance as well.
Overall this was a decent action flick that did enough to get a 7/10 from me...
