Exodus: Gods and Kings
Couldn't find the thread so please merge if there is one.
Back from Glasgow where they used one of the larger screen. Started dead on 20:00 which was a relief. Really enjoyed it even though I know the story. Far better than Noah where there was more artistic license. Visually stunning and both leads were good 8/10
Definitely agree that everyone else didn't do much in film

Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings
I thought this was excellent, gripping and spectacular even if it did look a little out of focus at times in Manchester and oddly the picture didn't fill the screen.
Decent acting all round, but I did feel a bit sorry for a few actors with not much to do - oh look there's Sigourney Weaver in the background yet again 8.5/10

Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings
Busy screening tonight in Glasgow though not full. As Yinster said, we know the story . . .you may have read the book or seen Cecil B. DeMille's version in full technicolour. I was surprised to find tonight's film was 3D as it wasn't marked as such on ticket. This film was less colourful than previous films though it still had a huge cast, particularly stunt men if you watch the credits. I thought the main leads were both very well cast and acted well throughout. I wasn't sure at first about God but I did grow to like the portrayal. I was a little surprised that they missed out and ended the film very abruptly.
I would definitely have gone to see Exodus so delighted to see for free.

Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings
Also watched at Manchester - not sure what was going on with the screen.
I was very disappointed - as usual these days it was too long and pedestrian.
It was dull even the action scenes were sparse - before the movie we had Ridley Scott banging on that it was epic??
Not a patch on Gladiator.
Plus 3D was a waste of time.
5/10

I watched the movie at the O2 in North Greenwich and I found it exhausting to watch. It was long and drawn out, well acted and yet you didn't care about any of the characters. Also didn't like the changes to the story - Moses didn't even carry a staff but a sword. The only good moment was the Red Sea waters closing back on the Ramses' army. 3D not necessary. 5/10

Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings
Inept organisation at the O2 last night. Sky Movies ticket said red carpet from 5.30pm. film starts at 7pm. I got there just after 6 to find the queue still outside and no sign of anyone letting us in. After about 20 minutes someone came and said if anyone wants to go upstairs then please follow them as they are only opening it for those who want to go up there now. I stayed downstairs and about 10 minutes later we were slowly going in. One of the cinemas workers said that the times on the invites were wrong and that the red carpet would be 7.30 and the film would start at 8.30. What idiot thinks of starting a 2 and half hour film at 8.30pm?
After finding my seat and being sat in almost a dark cinema they put on the lights a bit, then the screen lit up as they tested the 3D ratios. Followed by them turning the music up way too loud. Then they tried to tap into the live feed at the premiere, only visuals for a while then they finally got the sound.
The red carpet finished about 7.20 and then we had to sit and wait. Then they reshowed all the red carpet interviews we had already seen. That finished about 7.50. Then at 8pm cinema worker came in and told us they were going to start the film at 8.15.
The only thing they got right was the start time.
So as if they hadn't cocked up the night bad enough, the film then started.
What absolute shambles. What should be an interesting story is disengaging from minute one thanks to terrible acting, woeful accents, hammy dialogue. The whole point of the film is to show what an EPIC film it is, virtually every scene is EPIC in scale. But after a while these EPIC scenes become boring and all blur into one. I'll give anyone £10 to tell me of ten minutes of this film that didn't feature a wide panoramic shot or huge CGI. It's more concerned with looking good than actually having engaging characters that go through biblical moments.
The big finale is a complete washout as well.
Also the 3D is double exposed so everyone who is in the middle foreground looks to have a shadow around themselves. It's a shockingly bad conversion.
This is easily one of the worst films I have seen this year.

Glad it wasn't only me who thought it was rubbish - and boy i am sick of 3D for no reason whatsoever - i can only think its a cynical way to con customers out of more money!FBS wrote:Inept organisation at the O2 last night. Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings
Things went a lot smoother this time round in Cardiff, the red carpet thingy worked and the film came on straight after. Agree that the 3D wasn't really needed, had a peek at the screen without them and the colours were a lot better, OH wanted me to say that "he thought the 3D was a bit flat". I find that the new digital filming makes a lot of the background images blurry when panning around with things/people/leaves are in motion. The first fight scene was extremely jerky.
I miss real film. Perhaps in years to come it will be like LP's, tape, CD's MP3 etc.. oldies reminiscing of how good it was in their day.
The film... I think the word EPIC was a tad over used and while the scenery (in all aspects of the word) was good, apart from the 2 main actors everyone else could have been cardboard cutouts standing around. Having been brought up with the 'story' I did think they left quite a lot out which would have made sense of the ending. As the film was over 2 hrs, felt the ending should have been given more time to develop as to why he was suddenly older and grayer.
Quite liked the idea used for depicting god but did sadly make Moses look as if he was having a schizophrenic episode.
It may sound that I hated the film but I didn't. It just seemed to miss the mark of being truly and here it comes...... epic.
6/10
ps a rant
I have to wait till the crowds leave due to me still on crutches and not wanting to get trampled in the exodus..... when the lights came up I was horrified by the amount of rubbish that people left behind. The woman next to me seemed to have spilled most of the huge bucket of popcorn she had over the floor, the drinks cups were everywhere. Arrgh why are people doing this???

Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings
Another long agonising evening at the O2. But this time the screening was shown in the Super screen, what a waste it was barely half filled theatre. Even, more annoying having the ushers keep returning every 15 minutes harassing peoples to not leaving gaps.
Red carpet coverage was shown in clips of 10-15 minutes, Film started around 8.15. I didn't think it was as "EPIC" as made out to be, as for the the 3D effect was useless, was expecting to see the full effect of 3D near the end of the tornado twisters and tsunami.
I was expecting more in costumes design of this film, in my opinion not all that "EPIC". 6/10
