The DUFF

#1 Post by The Sparrow » Tue Mar 24, 2015 12:23 pm

As the screening on 2nd April is a Heat screening, the inevitable question will be asked.

"Will I need the page from the Heat Magazine and if I do which issue?"

Firstly, most cinemas do not ask for the page but recently some cinemas have asked for the page and have also turned people without it, away.

Secondly, if you decide to take the page to be on the safe side, you will need the issue that came out today 24th March (I don't know the issue number or the date on the front page.

But whatever happens, post all comments on here and not on Free Films, thanks.

Saw this at the Odeon Kingston this morning. Didn't seem particularly busy, maybe the weather put people off.

Anyway, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It may not have been very original and in some respects it was fairly predictable. What distinguished it from other Mean Girls wannabes however, was a smart, funny script and an incredibly likeable lead performance from Mae Whitman. Solid support from Robbie Amell, Allison Janney and Ken Jeong helped too. Worth getting up early for on a miserable Sunday morning.

I too saw this today in Kingston. Cinema less than 10% full. Below-average High School movie - with stereotypical gawky kid, nasty popular girls, jocks and nerds. Very little humour. Kept looking at my watch – couldn’t wait for it to finish. Very unoriginal. 4/10

Saw this at cdl bristol...cinema quite full considering it sounded like a hurricane outside!

Predictable teen movie and felt it trying too hard to be funny in places without success but otherwise fine to switch off for a few hours and the actor playing Wesley helped...what a hottie!

Thought that he looked like a younger and taller version of Tom Cruise

Back from Glasgow Vue. Surprise at how it wasn't full. Majority of audience were females in particular teenage girls.

Personally I enjoyed this unoriginal film. It was silly funny. Not a lot to think but had some nice camera techniques in keeping with today's technology. 7/10

Ah young Robbie who is not as young as he looks. 26 years old. First noticed him in Cheaper By The Dozen 2 but more recently in the remake of the tv series of The Tomorrow People and The Flash.

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

Me and my friend really really enjoyed this and the book has definitely jumped to the top of my to-red list!

Funny, entertaining and very very truthful of teenage life, both me and friends were DUFF's(though like the editor of the newspaper, there was a different name for it back then), I wanted to bitch slap the hell out of Maddison, and I was full on wooting for Wesley and Biannca at the end! :)

Will definitely be seeing this again with another of my friends!

Showing at Croydon Grants. Stopped after about half hour for fire alarm. I'll be writing a strongly worded letter to management of the cinema after an appalling experience as a disabled customer & the lack of provision for disabled people to exit the screen. Awful, awful experience that I'm still in pain from now :(...

i loved the last teen girl high school film I watched, Easy A, so was hoping to stike it lucky again. I thought this was boringly predictable and rather bland. Some people in the audience laughed lots but i don't think i smiled once. the lead 'designated ugly & fat friend' was neither neither ugly nor fat so her 'sudden' transformation was telescoped from the first scene. and, i don't even think there is a need for a spoiler label, at the end she dresses less 'weirdly' & seems to conform to the norm. I think i will go back to avoiding this teen girl fodder.

namecheck - how many social media accounts do you have? the writers wanted to name them all so that today's teen know this is a #hipmovie. #viral #ugh!

I thought this was fun, even if it was a little XX chromosome orientated. Ok it was far from original, but I was really impressed with the scripting. Mr Arthur the teacher was really funny. The two leads were great as well, although I couldn't help thinking that this was Stacey Slater (eastenders) meets Tom Cruise's wee brother! I knew he was familiar and I knew he wasn't Zac Effron, but otherwise couldn't place him. I agree though that the Stacey girl was neither fat nor ugly, before not after, so didn't really get that bit. My biggest regret was that I was plagued by micro sleep during this. Not because it was dull or boring. I must have been shattered and was watching a late showing. It did therefore make a difference that I had seen the trailer several times. Meant that it made more sense with the bits I "missed".

6/10

Think I would like to see this again, while I'm conscious! Lol

Ps. Did anyone watching the closing credits sequences notice the "McG" written onscreen? I had to titter.
