San Andreas
Just back from tonite's world premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square, where I was joined by ciro22, lonewolf and vealster, though a number of other FMUKers were also present.
Director Brad Peyton and star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson did the usual intros and almost all the featured cast (other than Paul Giamatti and Ioan Gruffudd) were present, including Kylie Minogue, who has a 'blink and you'll miss it' role in the movie, but whose global superstar status meant that she was understandably front and centre at this event.
Presented tonite in the 3D version, this disaster movie includes almost all the tropes from a million other movies of its ilk but is by no means a disaster itself. Although implausible, it races along almost from the off, jumping from one narrowly averted crisis / death to another as The Rock seeks to secure the safety of his family whilst a massive earthquake lays waste to most of Nevada and California.
Some decent effects work and a smattering of humour are just about enough to get you to invest in the ride and the not terribly well developed characters and make you forget that there is nothing particularly original here.
Solid popcorn entertainment which will only serve to cement The Rock's growing reputation as a bankable action star.

Re: San Andreas
Thanks davewatts001 for the spare for my OH.
We managed to catch quite a lot of the stars on the red carpet, and when viewing our photos later last night, a lot of them had vealster in the background!
For once, no security hurrying us along!
It was an epic drama thriller disaster film, predictable but thoroughly enjoyed the ride! Good 3D too. 9/10

Re: San Andreas
This was a blend of all other action and disaster movies - there were bits that were straight out of The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno to name but a few. I am not sure the 3D added much overall and the special effects were all over the place. Some scenes were quite impressive and yet others looked cheap with poor CGI. This also had some of the worse continuity I have ever seen for hair and make up (especially Carla Gugino).
Overall it was entertaining enough but nothing memorable. 6/10.

Re: San Andreas
as said above a rehash of every other disaster movie (not withstanding that every recent disaster movie is a rehash of previous disaster movies anyway, so its a rehash of rehashes lol). All these natural disasters can be a great thing for reducing divorce rates apparently.
2 genuinely fresh jaw dropping scenes, other than that an exercise in extreme incredulity, dominoes of toppling towers and horribly unintentionally funny lines.

Re: San Andreas
This was so cheesy and bad, me and my mom pretty much laughed at it all.
They clearly used up all of their special FX budget on the collapsing buildings so they couldn't afford a proper car barrel rol at the very beginning.
As soon as the daughter said she was heading san francisco, me and my mom guessed what would happen.
*insert actor who was clearly hired for her boobs*
*insert stereotypical british guys here*
*insert crazy falls/batterings and the like that you would not walk away from*
*insert a perfectly straight route for The Rock and mom to drive into the city(despite the fact the city was flattened, and not in an orderly fashion*
Bad, cheesy, lots of disaster movies rolled into one. I could bash this all day.
2/10 purely for the destruction and the splat.

Oh and the fact that, she'd been dead for so long that when she came round(though im doubting she would have) she would have had at least mild brain damage.

Re: San Andreas
The Rock rocks. This was super silly but very entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great film for not being required to think. If you try to think about it your head will explode!
A good blockbuster and a good night out. 7/10 for cheering me up.

Re: San Andreas
a fair bit better in IMAX, that's the SFX I mean. The movie is still what it is, weak to fair, and shot through with some of the dumbest lines in creation - you don't ask a kid with an English accent where hes from, unless you are an imbecile. And the kid wouldn't answer "England", unless he shared that imbecility. But this film appeared to be full of imbeciles.
