Bridge of Spies

#1 Post by RandomHajile » Tue Nov 17, 2015 9:55 pm

Saw this at Piccadilly tonight, an they were wise to put it in their largest screen (4)

Had a introduction and a few late comers but it's great, Spielberg made a good box office movie again finally :p

Can totally see why there's like 7previews of this before release.

9/10

I thought this was excellent. Tom Hanks was brilliant and it's a clever script co written by the Coens and well directed by Spielberg.
The legal aspects, particularly the constitutional ones are downplayed and that I felt made the story suffer a bit weight wise, but that small moan aside thus was brilliant filmmaking all round.
Gripping and clever
9/10 from a packed Edinburgh.

Seen at Vue Cheshire Oaks. 6 for 6.30 showing, all seats filled by 6.10pm so presume some people would have been disappointed, not good when you've gone out on a dark wet and windy evening.

The film was riveting from start to finish. Bridge of Spies and Carol both set in similar era, but these scenes of the 50s seemed so much more natural and uncontrived. Acting superb, wonderful to see Alan Alda. Came away thinking that was a PROPER film, well worth seeing. 10/10

Saw this last night at the Times screening at Vue Islington. We were let in way before 6pm, so no queuing up, which is how it should be, all this queuing lark is tedious. ;) So civilised to be let in early, find your seat, and relax, read the paper, chat or whatever people do before the film starts. The Times lady was very efficient, welcomed you and told you what screen to go to and what time the film started. Sure enough exactly on the dot of 6.30pm the film started.

Also good that Vue was checking bags before going in. Feel a lot safer after recent events and London is on high alert.

Brilliant film. Cold war drama with Tom Hanks, could not ask for more. Both Tom and Mark Rylance is superb. Good tension, great script, although a little slow at first, but once the story gets underway, the time just flies. 9/10

Oh dear, wish I could make a comment, the film wouldn't play properly in Cardiff. They gave us free tickets each

Bridge of Pies - as someone called it in error. Better name I think.

This was like Disney Does Espionage. Barely a sniff of violence, about 3 bullets, and no blood whatsoever.
Forest Gump was good as ever although he seemed to be reprising his Walt Disney role. He didn't even need to change costumes!
I found the rather random flashes of comedy really off putting as it was completely wrong for the seriousness of the film. Some of it was just silly.

What on earth was the accent of Abel? He sounded like a really bad Scottish accent to me. Indeed when they spoke of going fishing in Scotland I presumed Abel was going home to Inverness! Russian my backside!

Entertaining if not thrilling.

Saw this tonight at the Telegraph screening in Manchester. Another great Spielberg film, just a shame that the ODEON Printworks felt the need to keep the lights on for the whole film! It was good to watch a film with an interesting story at its core, something which sadly seems to be becoming more rare these days. Tom Hanks delivered another stellar performance and Mark Rylance was also brilliant. Can see this doing well at the Oscars next year. 8/10

Excellent film. Very apt for the current day and age. Superb performances by all. Humorous in places. Extremely well written and directed. Very busy at Manchester Printworks and a very pleasant audience. 9/10

Abel was born in Newcastle and went to school in Scotland prior to returning to Russia aged 17 from what I read. Hence the soft Scottish accent. His British passport was real.
