Ghostbusters (2016)

#1 Post by yogi » Tue Jul 05, 2016 5:25 pm

Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!

Not sure what people think about this, opinion elsewhere seems er.. divided to put it mildly.

But for anyone close to Manchester who wants to relive the original or get excited about the new one then there's a chance to see Ecto-1 this Thursday!

Went to the multimedia screening yesterday at Leicester Square Odeon.

Much better and funnier than I expected. Worth seeing just for Chris Hemsworth alone, he is brilliant. Such a great mover, and so funny! Good, light, fun entertainment. 8/10

It was great to see and catch up with tilly. It's also nice to be with my usual group of FMUKers, looking out for each other, as SFF ticket holders were told to arrive later than glossy ticket holders, so that we all managed to get a good seat together, cos it's a good hour from when doors open to the screening, and they were late starting too. But the free popcorn and water on the seats helped, and of course the company!

I thoroughly enjoyed this despite having reservations from seeing the awful trailer.
Loved Hemsworth playing vacuous and eye candy.
Really liked how they referenced the original in various ways including the cameos.
I'm not particularly a fan of McCarthy but she didn't overdo the in your face humour. I still hated the parts in the trailer when I saw them in context but the good far outweighed the bad.

The ghosts were fabulous and I bet they will look even better in 3D.

From what happened in the post credit scene, it looks like they expect to go ahead with a sequel.

I saw this the other day using my Odeon Limitless card and have to say it was much better than I expected. It was fun and great to see some characters updated from the original film. Worth a watch!

saw this at odeon lest sq (royal circle ftw!) and not even this screen with its great sound could save it

blatant sexist, casual racist, tosh.

good god is it rubbish, so forced, but hey at least it keeps up the tradition that movies released this year on monday are infact rubbish.

no wonder there was no advance screenings for this as proper word of mouth will rightfully destroy this movie.

It was never going to be the Ghostbusters of 1984 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters and even before filming commenced people hated it, mosted hated thing on youtube

Ok as I never p*y attention to what Class V entities have to say about films they have NOT seen I
I kept an open mind, even film critics who rate it have taken a bshing

Spoiler alert there is an "Event" naer the end of the film which happen

Ghostbusters 2016 ends

The end credits begin to roll....... remain seated
The REAL "END CREDITS" i.e the long list of what person duties performed on the film signify the ACTUAL end of the film have NOT really begun

The "Event" that you WON'T have missed near the end of the film is found here....
After Ghostbusters 2016 ends but before The REAL "END CREDITS"

It won't change your overall views one way or another but it will play homage, and sadly NOT being a "Marvel" film many did NOTremain seated so missed it
Quentin Rodriguez & Robert Tarantino

Ohh a 0/10 looks like we have our own Ghostbros
https://www.theguardian.com/film/filmbl ... emale-cast

I'm a big fan of the original, it forms a key moment in my childhood, and I love this film just as much. Shame about the one cameo they couldn't get. And they made a dedication to Harold Ramis at the end which was nice.

The original Ghostbusters movies aren't great but they create an interesting mood and world and coast by mainly due to Murray's charisma, it's surprising they haven't been copied more often.

The new movie gets a lot right to begin with aside from dumb Hemsworth whose character was abysmal (covering his eyes to not hear something is beyond stupid and joke breaking). Unfortunately around the 3/4 mark they just start introducing new concepts to the movie for no reason
Spoiler
Show
new weapons, having to act like frauds for some reason and the necessary laylines
it's too much and not surprising to hear a 4 hour cut existed.

The finale is satisfying and the 3d is surprisingly good if you're in a cinema that presents it well (Life of Pi level effects).
