The Snowman

#1 Post by fraz » Mon Oct 16, 2017 10:32 pm

Looking to launch a new franchise using the source material from Jo Nesbo's uber popular Harry Hole novels, The Snowman is actually the 7th book of the series but chosen as the one to bring to the big screen first.

Despite a strong cast to utilise, the story just falls quite flat. Harry suffers as the clichèd, well trodden drunken detective who burns bridges without any consequence or any real insight into how he came into his addiction. Maybe the books shed more light but I've not read them...

The final showdown has a real air of fortune about it rather than anything our antihero did to influence proceedings.

Not a great start for Hole. I would be surprised to see a follow up coming anytime soon. 6/10

comes across like a group of Brits on a holiday they didnt want in freezing Scandinavia. Dull, pointless series of scenes largely.

why not cast Scandis? awful casting error.

I agree, it's just blatant westernisation of Nordic noir. I can't even remember there being any dialogue not in english. It's dumbed down far too much.

Yes, agree with you all. I was looking forward to this and was left disappointed. I can't see them making any more.
Read the book instead!

Yes, start with the Bat, which appears to be the origin of his slow demise into alcoholism.

My thoughts exactly. Dumbed down for the masses but the masses hate it. It would've been better had it been in Norwegian. A soggy mess of a film.

Did I watch another film? I liked it. I've read all the Nesbo books that are out so far and strangely enough I thought the film captured the book's atmosphere and Fassbender was a good Harry Hole and I hope they will make more films with him as Hole. Am I too easily pleased? I found the film good and give it 8/10.

just out of interest, did it not bother you that a movie set physically in Scandinavia had not one major Scandi character? It stuck out like a sore thumb jabbed right in my eye lol.
