Directed by Roger Michell.
Starring: Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton, Patrick Wilson, Jeff Goldblum.

Plot: When hard–working TV producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) is fired from a local news program, her career begins to look as bleak as her hapless love life. Stumbling into a job at "Daybreak" (the last–place national morning news show), Becky decides to revitalize the show by bringing on legendary TV anchor Mike Pomeroy (Ford). Unfortunately, Pomeroy refuses to cover morning show staples like celebrity gossip, weather, fashion and crafts – let alone work with his new co–host, Colleen Peck (Keaton), a former beauty queen and longtime morning show personality who is more than happy covering morning "news." As Mike and Colleen clash, first behind the scenes and then on the air, Becky's blossoming love affair with fellow producer, Adam Bennett (Wilson) begins to unravel – and soon Becky is struggling to save her relationship, her reputation, her job and ultimately, the show itself.

I have got tickets for January anyway but honestly, what is the matter with having about 7 previews on the same date tomorrow?

Morning Glory is a fairly entertaining but ultimately forgettable comedy drama that is unlikely to linger long in the memory. Not perhaps as funny as it should be and at times dramatically unconvincing. It also has a crushingly banal soundtrack including Joss Stone, Newton Faulkner and Paolo Nutini (Good god I almost fell asleep writing that sentence).

Not that it's all bad. Rachel McAdams is an incredibly likeable lead which is no mean feat when you consider the character of a young woman who becomes the executive producer of a failing morning show is supposed to be career driven and ambitious. Characters like that are usually hard to warm to but McAdams has considerable charm. There is solid if unspectacular support from Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Jeff Goldblum but Patrick Wilson is completely wasted in an underwritten role as McAdam's love interest. The Ford/Keaton double act produces most of the laughs along with the antics of the hapless Ernie, the roving reporter who gets put in increasingly humiliating situations. Ty Burrell (Modern Family) also has a nice cameo as the sleazy egotistical anchor that Ford replaces.

But as I said it isn't consistently funny enough and attempts at drama don't always come off. The tension between McAdams and Wilson is never properly explored, an attempt at a big news story that Ford breaks feels a little weak and could have done with a bit more background prior to it to make it work and a scene near the end where McAdams has to run from one place to another doesn't actually make any sense. So an attempt at a big important climax to the story feels unnecessary and unconvincing.

Overall Morning Glory isn't awful then but it's hard to get too enthusiastic about it.

So no FMUKers have won premiere tickets to this?
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
