The best theatre offers, at least money wise, were from ENO, Coliseum earlier this year? (I would never have been able to afford an 85 pound ticket to see a ballet  ) But tastes differ....

I thought the same, the show was so let down by this.

I like opera and ballet, but they really do inflate their top prices greatly. Thats because they have so much backroom staff to p*y for and the going rate for top opera singers and ballet dancers are way higher than other theatrical performers. But the ENO's show have consistently underperformed in terms of attendance anyway.
On the other hand, I've never seen a free offer for a major West End musical and I would have thought they should have no problems filling seats for a preview of Rock of Ages. Is the musical not to "british" tastes? I am not familiar with the musical, maybe someone else knows abit more? It seems to be really popular in the States.

I think the problem is people aren't aware of this musical yet.
I certainally never did but think very soon will be hearing about it. Haven't even seen adverts in the paper yet. But when wizard of oz was coming out they were selling tickets a year before

I've seen it on buses, but it must be really big if they are making a Hollywood film already.
They normally only do it for really big ones like Mamma Mia and Chicago

Agree opera and ballet are overpriced, AND I never seen any tickets to ENO or ROH on last minute.com, etc... AND they do not do group rates, school rates, etc...,Very rarely they email special offers with whatsonstage, etc...
I asked them in ROH about school rates and they said they do not need to do it... as they'll sell children's ballets, etc. anyway!
I honestly thought that the school rates, etc were to promote the theatre to the children, not to fill up the seats... but I guess I was wrong

So in most cases you'll either have to p*y what they ask for or don't go unless you receive a lovely unexpected present from SFF.
I think they used to do "10 pound Mondays" or something like that years ago... but I never had a chance to use it, and not sure how it worked....

With musicals they do special offers, lastminute.com, group rates, school rates, half price ticket boof, kids week, same day ticket sales (like Wicked) etc....

So musicals a bit more affordable? They have different price ranges for Rock of ages now, with top price tickets being 45 pounds before September 26th, which is not bad for a musical!

I have several friends in New York and I was considering asking them re Rock of Ages, but we are almost there now? So we'll see for ourselves! (Big thank you to Canadian Turtle for providing me with this excelent opportunity!) and thank you to superhero for the codes!

Awaiting Monday reviews!

I was hoping someone might have seen it on Saturday and popped a review for Rock of Ages. Can't wait to hear from everyone.

ROH do offer quite a few different discounts, maybe you went through to an unhelpful member of staff?

Their £10 student standby is great: https://www.facebook.com/pages/I-10-ROH ... 9849104102

But you need to register on their site first, as once the standby offer goes out, tickets go very quickly

They also do a general standby as well, but thats only decided on the day generally.

If you are talking about school children, instead of university students, they do offer a few school performances in a year, but you need to contact the education department rather than box office

They also have a few cheap seats for all performances, but you just need to know when they are available and where they are

TheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:My favourite characters in the show were Catwoman, Alfred, and best of all by a long way, was Harley Quinn. Harley's performance was so identical to the 90s animated series character, that I wondered if it was the same actress but it couldnt be, she would be so much older...
Now to the negatives of the show. There are a few! One of the two most glaring negatives is the Joker.
on retrospect he was a bit too Leslie Crowther.
Lol blame Heath Ledger, everyone else playing Joker will always look crap now compared to him.

Royal Opera House

It's not free but if you register here:

http://www.roh.org.uk/discover/educatio ... lcome.aspx

and you haven't been before you may get an email invite. They used to be called Family Performances I think.

I've been to an opera and two ballets best seats £20 (list price approx £160) but you can go for £5 as well. These are proper performances with top artistes and they usually put on other free events the same day. I saw a Royal Ballet class as well.
Preferred Cinemas :
Richmond, Kingston, West End, Wimbledon, Shepherds Bush, Clapham, Westfield, Fulham
