Re: The Help
Where were you sitting anyway? I was trying to spot the back of your head as I wanted to ask if you'd seen Sandy's Tweet about the costume fitting (which I know you have now), but I didn't see you. I think they sat down in one of the first few rows to the right hand side of the screen eventually. One was wearing a blue jacket.

Re: The Help
Those women sound awful, can't believe they still behaved like that even after being told that Beate was in the toilet. How dare they! It's one thing to assume the seat is free but if you have been told it is not, move along! Reminds me of the rude people I had to encounter on the bus in the morning, blatantly pushing in front of those of us who had been waiting. I had to call them out on it, real lack of manners, did their parents ever teach them how queues work? They just looked around sheepishly. Unfortunately they probably wondered what I was moaning about, their 'survival of the fittest' behaviour is just the norm during rush hour.
They all deserve to be tripped up a_person!
Anyway, back on topic - I'm going to resist the urge to read too much about the film on this thread at the moment, hoping to get some tickets for a later screening
. It looks like a good one.

Re: The Help
It was great to see so many FMUKers, but still missed rawsalsa and shmile, although I did say 'hi' to everyone arriving as I was standing near the entrance and bagged that area for FMUKers.
As Beate says we gave our contact details to Emily, the Psychologies lady, so I hope we will hear from her about the non-existent goodie bags. I swear I saw them when we walked in, jeancomp and I were the first to arrive. After I got my drink at the bar and turned round they had all been removed from the table.
For me, it was an emotional movie that brought tears to my eyes, but also have many funny moments. Thought the story was very well told, well acted and great chemistry all round. 9/10.

Re: The Help
Can't believe how late we arrived. Our bus driver seemed intent on our missing the film and we ended up walking the last 20 minutes. Sorry not to say hello to more FMUKers but we were just trying to find some seats and no we didn't try to steal Beate's.
I liked the film and agree that some bits of the dialogue were difficult/impossible to hear and understand and I speak American (though not American from the South). Thought there were a lot of good performances and I was interested to hear that the director and writer knew each other from grade school. Ms Churchill was quite full of her own voice --she is on Newsnight review occasionally and can be overpowering there too.
And I was a bit disappointed with no goody bags-- we don't get the luxury of a goody bag very often as we aren't in the select Beate/pxc corporate do group so were hoping for something here. We'll just have to be content with our magazine.

Re: The Help
Amazing film, which I am not going to write any review about as I just want to urge anyone who has not seen the film to make sure that you do! (Oh and take a tissue with you just in case...say no more!)
It was lovely to see some FMUKers tonight but a shame that I was unable to socialise with you beforehand, not that any of you would have wanted to as I have a really bad throat at the moment and I'm very annoying to listen to...yes even more than usual lol!
I hope my arriving a little late did not disturb anyone's enjoyment of the film I did not mean to be rude.

Re: The Help
Lovely to see so many FMUKkers last night and I enjoyed the pre-film sandwiches. Also disappointed about the lack of goody bags (it is dangerous to promise a goody bag to an FMUKker heavy event and then fail to deliver
).
Framestore has the most comofortable screening room I have ever been in. I think those seats are even nicer than Apollo Piccadilly Circus!
I loved the film. Despite a long running time, this never felt long or dragged. The performances were spot on, and Emma Stone is wonderful, showing she has a knack for drama as well as comedy. Can't wait to see her career launch after Spiderman next year. Her performance during the confrontation with her mother (and learning the truth about Constantine) was spot on and really made me tear up. Viola and Octavia really were sensational and I hope one or both of them receives an Oscar nomination for this. I was surprised to see Jessica Chastain, I didn't recognise her during the film, but only realised who she was when I saw her name at the end credits. She really is making a name for herself. Here she is so sweet and charming yet vulnerable and sympathetic. Excellent supporting work from the rest of the female cast, and Janney is a delight as always.
The story was moving, sad and funny all at once. There was just the right amount of comedic moments to lighten the tone on what is a very emotional story. I really felt a connection with Minny and Aibileen. Perhaps the narration was not as effective as it could have been. The film is beautifully shot and the script is terrific. There were a few moments when the Southern twang was too heavy and the dialogue could not be deciphered but I could understand the general gist of what was being said.
I agree with previous comments that Skeeter's love interest feels underwritten. It feels like some of his scenes were removed on the cutting room floor. I think this was included to show a different side of Skeeter but felt out of place and ended abruptly.
This is still a brilliant film and I will be watching this a second time. 9/10.

Re: The Help
Lol, this is fantastic. I had no idea any of you lot were there because I have absolutely no idea what you all look like. And I don't want to say anything in case I offend anybody, because I observed a few people fingering the sandwiches and then not actually taking them to eat! That's one of my pet hates! I hope it was none of you lot! Beate, my mate and I were extremely amused by your OH's cameo, so I wouldn't worry about it, lol. We said his silhouette resembled Wagner from X-Factor! You'll know who I am when I tell you I was the guy who had to dash before the director entered the room. I was not trying to be rude - I just had to catch another screening at Raindance. I also encountered the rude women. But she tried to crack a joke with me. I was having none of it. I'm one of those people who doesn't take kindly to strangers talking to me without good reason. Plus it was a terrible joke. Also, my mate and I were two of the people who went into the screening room early. Not necessarily to get good seats or anything. That doesn't particularly bother us. We just thought the logistics of the pre-film snacking area wasn't ideal. I couldn't find anywhere to put my plate. I was forever standing in front of the sandwiches because there simply was nowehre else to put my drink and my plate at the same time. I suppose I could have put my drink in my right hand, my plate in my left hand, and shoved my face into the plate of sandwiches like a dog. Not sure how well that would have gone down.

Re: The Help

I had a hand dilemma as well when I asked for a Diet Coke and the lady opened the can, filled half of a plastic cup and handed me cup + can!!! come on, how am I suppose to eat sandwiches now???

I quickly glurped the cup content and then my friend was the one holding the plate
