Luckily I hadn't got around to commenting about this yet, so ....

Yay! First free film of 2012! We enjoyed it, thought it was well cast and well acted. It could have been a play (as cliveas might have said if he'd posted a review) but I loved looking at the New York skyline and aerial shots so a very good start to the film-going year.

PS it was in a teeny tiny screen in Kingston, not full and most people seemed to be having their dinners.

I really enjoyed it. I'd give it 8/10. Shame OH was sick with man flu, as he would have liked it too.

Needless to say, my companions didn't :).

Expected a lot more from this film ... we were left a little bewildered at the end as the cinema lighting started to get brighter before the film had actually finished and then the credits started but you could still hear Kevin digging the hole. What a weird ending!

Expected alot more from this film had such good cast and promised so much.
Think it would have been better as tv special instead of a film.
Have to add that I also loved the new York skyline.
But once Jeremy irons appeared I kept expected him to pull out a gun and go looking for John McLean

With an ensemble cast that includes Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and Stanley Tucci. The film takes place over a 36-hour period at a large investment bank (presumed to be Lehman Brothers) at the brink of the financial crisis.
I would say the best Wall Street film ever (yes, including that one). Do you agree? Certainly better than the recent HBO "Too big to fail" which was too tied up in promoting/destructing reputations in its docudrama form.

Surprised some of these performances didn't make the Golden Globes list. But that's the trouble with ensemble pieces. If you liked “Glengarry Glen Ross” you will love this. It nails Wall Street/Financial Services for what it is but in an intelligent way, which the left wing, could never do. From within through its theme, played out in a number of characters of self doubt and worth.

The sub plot about his dog with cancer carried a message and was metaphor for the Kevin Spacey's integrity and inner turmoil (or even Wall Street's). At the end he was burying his dog, and not literally, himself.

Did anyone spot Jeremy Irons picking up the toy Lion in Demi's office?? Looked more like the Mufasa/Simba from Lion-king rather than Scar!! Or was I just getting bored enough to be looking at toys??

Yes I was one of those that gave it a positive review before it was lost.
Not going to write it out again so I'll try and get across why I liked it quickly.

Excellent ensemble cast. Spacey, Tucci and Bettany all very good.
Proper grown up script that didn't feel the need to dumb down the subject of financial markets and speculation to get it's point across.
Didn't bother me that I didn't understand all of it.
Great use of Phosphorescent on the soundtrack.
Wasn't bored once (definitely better than The Iron Lady on Tuesday)
It was Simon Cowell's worst film of 2011 (Mr Popper's Penguins was his favourite)
