Re: BFI all-nighter
Well, that was tiring.
I got to the cinema dressed as a hobbit (as you will see in my video) and quickly attracted attention from fellow cinema-goers because of my hobbit feet which were covered in fur. Sadly they didn't have any great prizes to give away and thus I didn't really 'win' the costume competition so much as get the same prize as everyone else (Watchmen Film Companion). Ah well. A load of people came up to me and said how good my costume was so I'm relatively happy.
It was a joy to rediscover the films as they should be seen on the big screen. It was also great to see them shown in 35mm, not digital. I can't think of the last time I saw an actual film film at the cinema, with the black spots appearing so often in the top-right of the screen and everything else. The Fellowship of the Ring was brilliant, with Gandalf the Grey and some visual effects that still hold up to this day. The Two Towers (which I haven't seen in a long while) is very different tonally with more character development and humour - something I very much appreciated as well as the breathtaking battle of Helm's Deep. The Return of the King was just as I had remembered it, awesome action scenes, squeezing emotion between Sam and Frodo and quite a drawn-out ending. I did spend the remainder of the day today extremely sad because Frodo left The Shire. I forgot how much of an impact that had had on me when I first saw it.
This all nighter was undoubtedly more difficult than the previous ones because we not only had less breaks but more long stretches sitting in our cinema seats. Luckily I was so engrossed in the films that each three-hour film was not at all taxing, apart from one 5-minute period in The Two Towers where I was a bit drowsy.
I'll post the video on here when it's finished uploading, otherwise I'm sure you'll all be glad to hear that I survived once again.

Well done, weirdy, so you decided to be a goody this time! Imax seats are actually very uncomfortable so you definitely did very well. So these were the theatrical editions and not extended ones as you mention 3 hours each. Good thing, otherwise you probably would have nodded off longer!

Re: BFI all-nighter
Going to the Lord of the Rings all-nighter tonight, slightly worried about staying awake until the time I have to leave home. I planned to sleep in today but was wide awake at 8am... Will need lots and lots of chocolate!
Anyone else going?
