I won two tickets for the Edinburgh Foodies Festival which starts today and is on over the weekend at Inverleith park so hubby and I going there today. So that will be my exercise for the day - walking and sampling!!! A dry and warm day today so will be nice to wander round all the stalls and watch the cookery demonstrations.

Had granola and blueberries for breakfast. The blueberries didn't keep even though they were in the fridge - only b*ght them two days ago and just managed to get enough for the breakfast and had to bin the rest as they had gone mushy. :noo:

Lunch will be the sampling at the foodies festival.

Grilled fish for tonight.

I see the weather is to be very hot down south so enjoy your day.
Your day sounds lovely wondering around and trying out new foods. It drives me made when food goes mushy especially after just 2 days. It would never enter my head that too many sandwiches would be a problem as I just add things up as calories and try to get a balanced diet (until MrG has words with me  ) plus as you probably know by now I hate wasting food hence last weekend was an Indian weekend trying to make meals out of what I have still in my fridge hence its ham salad sandwiches again for lunch.

Menu of the day:
Smoothie with strawberries and a banana (250 calories)
Ham salad roll (as I'm on a one woman mission to eat all the rocket, spinach and watercress still in the fridge - OH is getting a bit fed up with all the salad and veg hence he got fish and chips from the chip shop last night  ) with a weight watchers apricot yoghurt (300 calories)
Asda Thai green curry (356 calories) I got this for a day when I was short on time but needs eating up today even though I have plenty of time followed by pineapple and ice cream (150 calories)
I will have a 140 calories worth of chocolate buttons as I still have my bag left from my Easter egg but not enough calories left to eat the whole bag - I will get help.

Exercise of the day:
It will be a weekend programme 1 hour exercise DVD and a 4 mile brisk walk- not sure which day for either as I want to do 2 coats of emulsion over the weekend in my living room so depending on how long it takes me it may be 2 coats today and 2 lots of exercise tomorrow or one of each over today and tomorrow and then its just the feature wall to do - I am going to hang my curtains first and then make the decision whether to put it opposite the fireplace or opposite the window  I'm better blue tacking it to the wall and see which one looks best when the room is finished (sorry rambling now and nothing to do with losing weight  ) I'm getting so much done as DD is doing the housework and most of the ironing while she's off college so its win win situation as we can do loads when I'm off next week as the decorating will be finished :D

What are everyone else's plans for the day? Have fun and the weather is gorgeous o/

A nice day out yesterday got a bit of sunburn on forehead so got cream on today as I am going down to the sea front at Portobello for a walk this morning on my own - so can go at a brisk pace.

Yes it is definately the amount of bread I eat that makes a difference to me as I watch the carbs instead of counting calories as you know. One small slice of bread is 16 carbs and I have had quite a few sandwiches at lunch time this week when I would normally now have soup so it does all add up when I am trying to limit the total amount of carbs to 100 each day. :(

Off now while the sun is still shining.

Have a lovely day.

Sounds like a lovely day walking by the sea front o/

I should learn more about the carbs as lots of the diabetic patients at work talk a lot about the carbs especially the younger ones who are type 1 and on the insulin pump, byetta etc so that they can eat what they want and adjust it accordingly. It fascinates me how all the different ways of measuring food intake there are and how are health, lifestyles affects the one that is right for ourselves. I do mention you to my patients when they are talking about measuring the carbs and trying to lose weight so you are inspiring my patients too, I tell them that my friend who is also a type 2 has lost over 7lbs has done it steadily with regular exercise and I even mention what types of food you eat (I did check with the dieticians at work whether I'm OK to do this and they are impressed with you - we can give basic advise re diet, smoking etc but do refer on if they require specific help).

As you know diabetics have to watch their sugar intake and it is not just the sweet things that are bad for us as carbs convert into sugar. When I went to the diabetic clinic I was told to eat more wholemeal bread, brown rice and wholemeal pasta to keep you feeling fuller for longer but these are all high in carbs and too much makes you put on weight as well as increasing your blood sugar so it is finding a level that suits you. We all need carbs but too many are not good for weight gain - especially if inactive- but diabetics have found that cutting carbs also lowers their blood sugar down to an almost normal level. My HBac1 is 8.1 and should be about 5.5 so hoping to lower that significantly with low carbing and losing weight rather than increasing my medication.

My scales are showing quite a bit of weight lose now!!! LOL!

Hi everyone, hope you're all well & enjoyed the lovely sunshine today! I went out for drinks tonight (don't often do that now as I can't drink on my medication). But it was a special occasion-friend's birthday. I've been feeling quite guilty the past few days as I've been going over my 1500 calories a day limit, I tend to be on 1600-1750 or so. Some days it's very hard to stick to 1200-1500!!! Although it makes it harder when u eat out.....we ate out at the Wetherspoons tonight.....some food on the menu had "less than 700 calories!" written by the side....bloody hell that's tons though, I thought!! Reading all your lovely menus on here, I know we all have creative ideas for dinners for 300-400 per meal. I ended up having a burger (quite a small to average size), which came with chips (a tiny portion in a little container, so not too bad), with a little bit of tomato relish. I had a Pimms & lemonade (yummy!) then J20 fruit juice, so not much alcohol (which avoided calories).

I got comments from mates (who I'd not seen for about a month) on how good I looked tonight & people noticed my weight loss (5 lbs in 3 weeks). So I felt positive about that! And I've not been bothering to straighten my hair recently like I used to (it's not worth it now with all the swimming I do!), but I did for tonight - wow my hair's gotten long! I wonder if I get a haircut, would I lose weight? Lol ;)

5lbs in 3 weeks is pretty good going especially when you have days when you have to rest so if I was you I would be patting myself on the back and feeling very proud of myself especially when people are commenting on you looking good o/ When I go out for meals (weekly treats) I always have something of between 700 and 800 calories - I even have a cake containing that many calories but you can still incorporate that in 1500 calories if you have a 300 - 400 calorie breakfast and lunch. I wouldn't class it as a treat if I had say just a leggara pizza at Pizza Express it has to be followed by a semi freddo reale otherwise not much point in a treat (I'm a greedy guts hence a treat day is a treat day - if you check over the last 4 months I have never gone a week without one :shifty: )

Menu of the day:
Smoothie with a banana and strawberries (250 calories)
2 slices of French toast with cinnamon (from MrG's spark people recipe) followed by a weight watchers nectarine yoghurt (350 calories)
Beef chilli made by my mother (she made it too hot for herself and I'm the only one who will eat it) with wholegrain rice followed by fresh pineapple and ice cream (600 calories)

Exercise of the day:
A 4 mile brisk walk and the exercise DVD as I had yesterday as a rest day - well I completed all my painting so I can move the furniture back today and will be able to stick my legs out to do the floor work of my DVD.

What is everyone else up to today? Biggins and Preston you are both inspiring me re the getting out into the country and sea front to do the exercise - if its late when I'm walking I walk along a dual carriageway not exactly scenic but as there are a lot of cars passing by its safe. I've just booked my train to go to Windermere and Kendal on Wednesday so I can get plenty of countryside/fresh air (the lake in exchange for the sea front ) I could drive there really but its about the same price with petrol/ parking so I will take my book and read it on the train and you always meet people on the train.

Thanks Diane, I think I should treat myself more often then! Even friends last night kept saying to me, "Clare forget the calories for one night!"

Thank you so much for this, just watched the first 20 minutes and I will watch the rest later. It will be interesting for non weight watchers to watch this as its not just for people who are overweight. Don't forget its far worse to be thin and unfit than fat and fit. So any one out there who is trim in shape remember that internally you may not be as fit as you think. MrG will come into his own on this.
