http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en- ... 71d203b64d Another red band trailer, well, it's international actually, so hopefully we'll see this on the big screen before upcoming flicks. (Wolfman)
Super excited.

Re: Kick-Ass
Thanks Ethan :)
I don't think that trailer was edited together nearly as well as the last one, but the new footage looks great

All the interviews with the film-makers so far have said that they are aiming for an R rating in the U.S so this film should fall somewhere between a 15 and an 18 (although I'd wager that it's more likely 18 seeing as the film depicts kids getting up to all kinds of shenanigans...

Re: Kick-Ass
The last issue of the comic came out recently. That and the previous issue weren't in the slightest bit fun, and it contained the most disgusting violence I've ever seen. Yet, by the end of it, I'm pretty confident the series as a whole constitutes a masterpiece.
From what I've seen, the end of the film will be very different. Oh well. It should be fantastic fun like the first issues of the series. Which is in no way a bad thing.

Well the writer and director have both already talked about making a sequel to the film so my guess is that they will be looking to take things in a different direction than the comics.
Whether a sequel is a good idea or not is a different question, as the main thrust of the comic and film is in the original concept and I don't see how a sequel wouldn't just be more of the same or just throw in more 'ordinary superhero' characters into the mix (see what happened to the TV show "Heroes" after its first season for an example of the problem of developing beyond a decent original concept...)

Re: Kick-Ass
We saw the trailer to this before Wolfman in Edinburgh last night and it looks hilarious. Shame the Empire screening is in Glasgow only up here.

It does look to be shaping up quite well judging by the trailer that was shown before The Wolfman, although you should really go and find the early unedited version if it's still available!

Re: Kick-Ass
Well, the comic ended with a "to be continued" moment (a fairly weak one to be honest) so it'll have at least a second run too, but yeah, likely to be different from any sequels to the film.ciro22 wrote:Well the writer and director have both already talked about making a sequel to the film so my guess is that they will be looking to take things in a different direction than the comics.
Incidentally, it's funny thinking about Mark Millar adaptations. Wanted, though the concept was twisted around (instead of just plain twisted), followed the plot of its first issue closely then went off in its own direction (the film was still great imo, just very different by the end). I reckon Kick-Ass will stay very faithful for maybe the first 5 issues or thereabouts. Will the next Millar film be completely faithful?

Re: Kick-Ass
Yeah, I know the rough ending of the comic book series and it seems like one of the few viable ways to continue on the story, but like you said it doesn't really push the story forward all that much...
Probably the most viable direction for a sequel would be to bring the government in and outlaw the superheroes' activities. That way you would get a brand new enemy for the characters to deal with and it would also add an extra dimension to their activities. I can only guess that they are trying to avoid going down this route because it's not too far off the previous plotlines of some of the major comic books.
As for how faithful the adaptation will be, it might reassure you to know that Mark Millar is quite heavily involved in the making of Kick-Ass so it shouldn't stray too far from the core concepts. However, a 2 hour movie is a very different proposition to a 12 issue comic book and so it's more than likely that there will be some necessary changes anyway so that the film can play out like a film.
The good news is that it looks like they are not being forced into making too many concessions to the studio system as the film is largely independantly financed and they are going straight for an R rating.
