Love Is All You Need

Saw this today at Odeon Greenwich. Bumped into Beate and her OH and nice to see cinefila1.

Pleasantly, I really liked this film. I was expecting a trashy rom com but it was more a comedy drama mostly in English and Danish. It was rated a 15 so I thought let's give it a go it could be different.

With the premise of a an Italian wedding. I thought it was going to be Mama Mia again but without the singing. To some extent it was but it was more about how dysfunctional families can be and how insensitive they can be.

The backdrops of Italy were impressive and it just made me want to visit that coast line.

This was ok but forgettable. Didn't think there'd be that much subtitling going on! The scenery was nice, yes, but there was not much of substance here and Pierce Brosnan's character really annoyed me. So Brosnan can't speak Danish, fair enough. But his character ought to, after living in Denmark for years, marrying a Danish woman and raising a son. His employees talk to him in Danish but he talks back in English - so he can understand but not speak? If they wanted to make allowances for Brosnan not speaking the lingo, why didn't they let everyone speak to him in English? Scandinavian people are highly proficient in the English language and this just felt painful. Also, him falling for the permanently smiling, cancer-beating, blonde wig-wearing Danish woman did not really feel believable.
On top we get all those cliches about the Italian landscape (so picturesque), old Italian villas, lemons etc. ("If life gives you lemons...")
With two hours runtime this is at least 30 minutes too long.
I also expected the Beatles song to make an appearance but later learned that the original title has nothing to do with it but translates as "The Bad Hairdresser". Not exactly a better title, so we'll let that slide.
Ok, it wasn't schmaltzy, but I much prefer Mamma Mia as a film about a Mediterranean wedding, even though Brosnan can't sing to save his life.

[RAZORBACK]

This really wasn't my sort of film & I can't say I was particularly looking forward to catching it...so the fact that I ended up really enjoying it nicely illustrated the benefits of not being able to pick & choose what I get to watch when going down the free films route.

Thought both the leads were really good in this (in an effortless sort of way) and it was a pleasant surprise to see Kim Bodnia (I loved 'The Bridge' ) make an appearance.

Overall this gets a 7/10 from me and I think the majority of those that are going to the screening on Tuesday will end up having a very positive experience ...

Personally I was entertained with this ideal Sunday morning film. A tad too long but wasn't bored and find myself laughing out loud quite a number of times. I knew it was Danish but didn't realise they tried to combine English and Danish. Personally I have subtitles on when I watch tv so I didn't mind it as I can focus on reading the screen and watching the film at the same time.

Actually I can related as my Cantonese is exactly like this. I understand more listening to it but trying to convert it back to speech is more difficult for me. So you find that I add English words to the Cantonese words I can't find in my head and then realising I know it when someone else says it.

Saw this yesterday in Wimbledon. On the whole I enjoyed it, but I think I would have preferred it if it was 100% in Danish. Not sure why Pierce Brosnan was in it and felt his role would have been better if filled by a Danish actor. I would imagine the reason behind his casting was simply to increase box office receipts in the UK. I thought Trine Dyrholm was charming. But her resemblance to Felicity Kendal was so striking, that I kept expecting Richard Briers to pop out from behind a bush! The story was predictable, but the stunning scenery more than made up for it. A pleasant Sunday-morning film. 6/10

I enjoyed this film though I went in spite of the title which I didn't find at all appealing. I'm a big Scandi fan after all the BBC4 screenings but only spotted Leif from TV. The gorgeous scenery was gorgeous and I liked all the family relationships - including the awful sister-in-law and her daughter.

All in all a relaxing film with lovely scenery. A bit too 'soapy' for me but Pierce Brosnan was wonderful and carries the film.

went to see this with 2 friends - they both enjoyed it - I personally was cringing with embarrassment seeing his hair go from brown to grey then brown then grey - the looks of bemusement on his face when people were speaking danish to him - noooooo that wasnt acting !! the editing errors - The Danes trying to put every genre of film making into this

If Pierce Brosnan was so skint as to accept money (hope he got nectar points as well) and a month in Italy for this he should start looking at maybe doing an ad
