Saw this tonight & I'm not sure what to think.
I loved drive, bronson & valhalla rising & generally appreciate a slower paced film....but oh boy!
I'm not going to say that this film drags, because it is much too good for that, but it certainly "lingers" over many shots, punctuated by extreme physical / verbal violence (I found that the verbal outburst by gosling's character directed at the girl, the most shocking scene here).
It's probably a masterpiece of cinema, but did I "like it"? Dunno ?
10/10
Give me arty-pretentious-nonsense over mindless-churned out-fodder every day of the week.

Re: Only God Forgives
Dire. The myth that is Ryan Gosling lives on. He's nothing more than eye candy in my opinion. He seems to have one acting style (quiet & broody) and nothing else. I'm yet to see him in a lead role & be impressed - people talk aboutDrive, but strip away the soundtrack & what's left?
Worst film I've seen this year. How I managed to finish this is a testament to... me!
Barring one scene, I didn't find the violence that bad. It was bloody yes, but I don't feel it was overly dwelt on, and for the most - you could see them coming so wasn't a great deal of "shock"

have we watched the same movie?pizzakiller wrote:Does Ryan die at the end of movie like Drive?
@don_datta: watch half nelson or lars and the real girl
Well, I absolutely loved this! I think this is very self indulgent of Refn (psychopath!), but I'd forgive him for that.
It won't be for everybody (as the few reviews on here already suggested it); I personally had to close my eyes a couple of time.
9/10
