Re: Kick-Ass
Yup, haven't seen it, but will be.
My concern is the knee-jerk reaction some people seem to be having. Like you say, the violence etc is toned down massively for wider advertising, and like you imply, this is out of necessity. Midian's post, however, suggested to me that she thought it was deliberately misleading.
Yes, Joe Public is ignorant, and nothing will change that, but I don't think anyone can justly criticise a film because of that fact. Audience Studies is a fascinating thing, and it's crazy to see how far an audience member's expectation affects their enjoyment of a film. But I whole-heartedly reject Joe P's insistence that There Will Be Blood, for instance, is a bad film because he thought it was going to be an action film (something someone actually said to me once). It's not just Joe Public, though - even film buffs like us have our movie experiences affected by what we expect (there's no such thing as a completely open mind, and personally I'm quite happy being suckered into the auteur myth). On the other hand we're better informed, and that's the way it should be. Otherwise we might criticise a film (or those who produced it) inaccurately and unjustly, due purely to our own inaction.

Re: Kick-Ass
Exactly the point, I think they were going to like it no matter what...with that kind of a reception...

Re: Kick-Ass
I don't think there are many tickets as capitalfm are doing a competition to win tickets to see this next Tuesday in London. Wonder how many tickets they are giving away?

"Ten qualifying winners will be drawn at random." So they are giving 20 tickets away.tilly wrote:I don't think there are many tickets as capitalfm are doing a competition to win tickets to see this next Tuesday in London. Wonder how many tickets they are giving away?
