Re: Sunshine On Leith
Saw this yesterday in Wandsworth. Wow! What a surprise! I absolutely loved it. Having not read anything about the film, when it started I thought it was going to be a war movie and my heart sank. But then It turned into a very lively feel-good musical - totally unexpected and very exhilarating. Loved the characters and recognised many of the actors. It was good to see Peter Mullan (Trainspotting, Top of the Lake, The Fear) as a nice guy as he usually plays gangsters and various others who you wouldn’t want to meet on a dark night. Jane Horrocks (Bubble from Ab Fab) shone as his wife, Jean. Jason Flemyng (Lock Stock) was brilliant as Jean’s boss. I was amazed that the cast could actually sing (even Mullan and Flemyng). I never would have thought that you could make a film out of The Proclaimers' songs – but it all worked really well, and didn’t feel contrived. It also made me realise what good songs they were – especially loved the finale. Yes, it was cheesy – but sometimes we all need a bit of cheese! Would def recommend it – one of the best films I have seen this year. My score 10/10

Re: Sunshine On Leith
It was cute enough, especially for a Sunday morning viewing. Beautifully shot and as mentioned by others even though the songs didn't necessarily add to the plot they did add to the entertainment.

Re: Sunshine On Leith
For those like myself who missed out the start of the film by the 10:30 early start.
I emailed: help@showfilmfirst.com last night to complain about the error. I just received an email stating they were looking into the mistake and "as a gesture of goodwill" were sending me a pair of complementary tickets!
Worth contacting them if you haven't already.

Re: Sunshine On Leith
Just got back from seeing this and have to say that I felt the songs blended into the story only 50% of time, the other 50% just jolted me out of being immersed in something that had the potential to be quite a nice little drama
. That said, all of the cast were really good & the final song did work really rather well so it was nice that the film ended on a high note.
All in all this did just enough to scrape a 7/10 from me but I doubt that this is a film that I'd go out of my way to see again...

Re: Sunshine On Leith
Just back from a packed Edinburgh. It was full by 6.15 so I guess a few folk got sent away disappointed?
Well, I wasn't blown away and I didn't love it. I didn't hate it either. It just passed me by really as being pretty unremarkable and completely inoffensive.
I wouldn't have liked to p*y for that taxi to Morningside though - about a 50 mile trip from the place they flagged it down in Glasgow!
As a local, the continuity of locations did get to me a bit. I also have never seen a wally close in Leith - I think they'd be a good improvement on many common stairs in Edinburgh!! I can understand it must happen all the time in London and New York etc.
I did enjoy the cameo from the Proclaimers themselves. Daniella Nardini as the cookbook author has changed a bit from her This Life days.......I can't think of anything I've seen her in since. Jane Horrocks' accent also drove me nuts. She'd been to the Miss Jean Brodie meets Monarch of the Glen, meets River City, meets Taggart school of accents and Scotticisms - I half expected her to say "Och aye the noo".
Sorry it just did nothing for me, and I like the Proclaimers.
5/10 from me.

Re: Sunshine On Leith
I must be in the minority as I hated the film.Thought that it was poorly acted, none of the cast could sing that well and the story was so contrived.Felt like a bad school play.

Re: Sunshine On Leith
Quite a gentle, inoffensive film. Some great dad dancing from Jason Flemyng and scene stealing performance from the boy on the top bunk. 6/10.
