Enjoyed this film a lot. An amazing physical transformation by MM. Good cast and story told well with nice touches of one liners. Think MM might be up for an award for that performance. 8.5/10

I was glad to see this at last (I know it has yet to open, but I'd read and heard so much about it that if felt as if I'd been waiting ages), but, probably for the same reason, it felt very familiar and held no surprises.

As Mr Glass said, artistic licence allowed it to be entertaining (I did wonder what a more factual account would have looked like, but if this version took about 20 years to attract sufficient funding, we may never know) and as valda said, people forget - or in many cases, of course, are too young ever to have known - what that period of the recent past was like. The ignorance and discrimination seem shocking now, even though it was not that long ago, but the same attitudes still apply in many other areas.

I could have done without the schmaltz and the grainy photography, but couldn't fault the acting, so 7.5 from me.

I found this thoroughly engrossing. Matthew McConaughey's performance and transformation is compelling to watch, as is his character's journey through the film. Jared Leto also gives an outstanding turn, showing great talent for acting and their unlikely friendship gives the film depth of feeling. No wonder that both have been nominated for their respective parts for the Oscars. Amazing that the film very nearly did not get made. I'm so glad I was able to catch a preview of it! 9/10

Loved this movie. Willed the fight to live, willed the fight for justice, and willed the prejudice to cease.

Good film, MM is definitely growing on me.

Not so impressed by the rude Show Films First Mathia lady (complete with fur hat) who wouldn't let people in at the Trocodero unless she was able to scan the QR code, view your ID and check you off her list of email addresses. She took 10 minutes just to process my voucher and didn't want to explain the necessity for checks. Found out later from the cinema manager that the staff were regularly subjected to fake tickets and abusive people so its understandable why they've taken this step. One woman had to run away when her voucher scanned as fake. I hope this SFF mathiosa style doesn't filter to other cinemas. :wall:

I thought this film was fantastic the performances of Matthew McConaughey & Jared Leto were first class having seen all the best actor nominees in thier respective films he just slightly shades best actor ahead of Leonardo DiCaprio and will be shame if he doesnt win, it is a truly remarkable film and well worth going to see!!
