I saw this at quite an empty smallish screening room at Boldon tonight. It was nice to meet quite a few fellow FMUKers who were in attendance.
I don’t quite know what I was expecting from this film, apart from that it would be incredibly scary. I had never seen the forerunner to this one “Rec” but I did do some homework by way of reading reviews etc. to establish what had gone before.
Frankly I found the film really boring although I did persevere with it to give it every chance. I kept on thinking that it would improve at some point. To give it its dues, it did build some tension through the hand held camera work and moody lighting which were successful in providing a somewhat claustrophobic feel. But that combined with some gore covered half seen figures jumping out from the gloom at regular intervals was not enough to send any shivers down my spine. For me it was repetitive uninteresting twaddle. Even the ending which presumably could lead to a “Rec3” (Oh, for the love of God - Nooooo!) I though was pretty uninspired.
I had this recurring thought that the film reminded me so much of the time that I insulated our loft, though obviously I must have had a bigger budget at my disposal than the film makers had. And the spiders that I encountered were MUCH more scary.
Luckily for me, my wife was not scared by this film at all, so no serious ticking off for me on that score. Apparently she thought she was going to see Robin Hood tonight, bless her (I’ve no idea how that misunderstanding happened

).
She did however proclaim this as “the worst film she had ever seen”, and I would have to pretty much concur with her on that sentiment.
This is a 2 out of 10 film in my book.
