Re: Bridge of Spies
Surprised that Vue Omni Edinburgh was only half full -perhaps the bad weather put some people off.
Very good film and the 2hours 15 minutes flew by. 8/10.

Odeon on Lothian Road in Edinburgh was also barely 1/4 full as well compared to the previous Telegraph screening. Wondering if they got the venues mixed up?

It is me that's mixed up! I was at the Omni for The Lady in the Van and then Lothian Road at night for the Bridge of spies!stuartboy wrote:Odeon on Lothian Road in Edinburgh was also barely 1/4 full as well compared to the previous Telegraph screening. Wondering if they got the venues mixed up?

Re: Bridge of Spies
They usually over allocate tickets to allow for people not turning up. You did the right thing, get there early, get your seat then go off and get food etc. So many people wander in after 6.30, laden down with food but nowhere to sitJgw wrote:Seen at Vue Cheshire Oaks. 6 for 6.30 showing, all seats filled by 6.10pm so presume some people would have been disappointed, not good when you've gone out on a dark wet and windy evening.
The film was riveting from start to finish. Bridge of Spies and Carol both set in similar era, but these scenes of the 50s seemed so much more natural and uncontrived. Acting superb, wonderful to see Alan Alda. Came away thinking that was a PROPER film, well worth seeing. 10/10

I can't wait to see this next

Saw this last night at the Odeon, Norwich courtesy of Telegraph Subscriber. What a great film, totally gripping from start to finish. Tom Hanks superb as ever. The action shots when the U2 was shot down were fantastic. A film not to miss!

He wasn't Russian. At one point they said they thought he was from the North of England but I thought he sounded Scottish.stuartboy wrote:Bridge of Pies - as someone called it in error. Better name I think.
This was like Disney Does Espionage. Barely a sniff of violence, about 3 bullets, and no blood whatsoever.
Forest Gump was good as ever although he seemed to be reprising his Walt Disney role. He didn't even need to change costumes!
I found the rather random flashes of comedy really off putting as it was completely wrong for the seriousness of the film. Some of it was just silly.
What on earth was the accent of Abel? He sounded like a really bad Scottish accent to me. Indeed when they spoke of going fishing in Scotland I presumed Abel was going home to Inverness! Russian my backside!
Entertaining if not thrilling.

The lights are currently broken.Smarties wrote:Saw this tonight at the Telegraph screening in Manchester. Another great Spielberg film, just a shame that the ODEON Printworks felt the need to keep the lights on for the whole film! It was good to watch a film with an interesting story at its core, something which sadly seems to be becoming more rare these days. Tom Hanks delivered another stellar performance and Mark Rylance was also brilliant. Can see this doing well at the Oscars next year. 8/10
And ftom what I heard, some people behaved in a disgusting manner towards staff.

Re: Bridge of Spies
I didn't see anyone acting in a disgusting manner towards staff. It was annoying that the lights were left on, but I think I only saw one person leave and come back who may have complained and no problems before the film. It is a common problem though, that's now happened at 3 films in the last few months!
Good performances and some nice directorial touches especially one near the end as Tom Hanks looked out of the window of the train which masterful and classic Spielberg.
Solid, well acted spy thriller that wasn't particularly thrilling but was very watchable. 7/10

Re: Bridge of Spies
Threatening staff is unacceptable no matter what has happened especially when it is beyond their control.
In fact the behaviour from "mature" people who go to Times and Telegraph previews is disgraceful lately.
Demanding, rude and with a huge sense of entitlement. I'm very surprised police haven't been called in one incident.
