Re: The Kids Are All Right
Im really glad I didn't bother watching this. I ended up leaving work at 6pm so could have just scraped it but with all these crappy reviews, I'm glad I just went home and spent time with my niece!

Re: The Kids Are All Right
Thanks to Bevvy, I saw this at the Everyman Cinema, Baker Street. First time that I had been there - a lovely venue.
I thought the film boring and unfunny. Loads of people were laughing at different scenes throughout the film, but it did not appeal to my sense of humour and I could not work out why others thought it funny.
Although well acted, I did not find the story convincing, and I do not believe in real life that people would react in the way suggested when put in the situations that the characters faced throughout the story.
I would give it 3/10 but only because I liked the cinema and I had drunk a very large glass of wine.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
I totally agree. I started getting really annoyed at that point.cheekyweelassie wrote: However, I felt really let down by the idea that a woman who has been married to her female partner for 20ish years would suddenly ‘go straight’ and have an affair with a bloke. Jules’s gleeful reaction to Paul’s c**k when she pulled his flies down just made my wife and I look at each with despair. It made me angry actually. Jules wasn’t described as bi-sexual. She didn’t seem to regret her affair.
My companions felt sorry for the Paul character, and he was indeed made out to be a nice guy who craves a family. Aaaah. He was well portrayed by Mark Ruffallo. But hang on, he completely screwed up this ready-made family for the sake of getting his leg over, so how much sympathy does he really deserve. And why should he become the central focus of the film anyway.

Also, my oh and I hated the disdain with which the Paul character was subsequently treated by his biological children because he had an affair with their mother.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
Just to say that I wrote and complained about the latecomers at the recent preview at The Trocadero and they have apologised and guaranteed it won't happen again and offered to send me a free ticket as compensation.
I later heard from my husband's colleague who we gave tickets to, that people were stopped from going up to the cinema by staff who didn't seem to know where to tell them to go and that was why so many came in so late and in such great numbers. Time for a bit of staff training at the Trocadero.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
I thought this was a very interesting, enjoyable and thought provoking film. Perhaps just a bit too judgemental and with a sort of non-comittal ending though.
I loved the non-idylic portrayal of the unconventional and dynamic relationship developing between the three adult leads and their two children. There were several funny incidents in this and some very touching and sensitive moments too.
7.5 out of 10.

Re: The Kids Are All Right
Finally saw this on Sunday, and it was definitely worth the wait. I really enjoyed this, particularly the fact that a gay family is played realistically, showing that they go through the same issues and difficulties faced in marriage as heterosexual couples. Even down to the snide "micromanaging" comments!!
But I agree with cheekyweelassie's comments about the blaze way which Jules conducted an affair with a man when she is gay. Yes she was having problems with Nick, but that doesn't mean she would start scr****g a guy. And yes the "oh my" when she pulled down Paul's jeans did irk me a bit too.
But overall, its nice having a movie dealing with an ordinary gay family make it into the mainstream without being labelled a "gay movie".
8.5/10

Re: The Kids Are All Right
Well Cineworld Trocadero were good to their word and did send me 2 free tickets for all the inconvenience that the latecomers caused. So it shows yet again that it's always worth complaining!

Re: The Kids Are All Right
Indeed. But which would be better: no disturbance or enduring it and complaining with a result like this?!
Re: The Kids Are All Right
Of course no interruptions would be better -- couldn't agree with you more, Ms Thrifty but at least the cinema took some notice of the complaint as sometimes complaints just vanish into thin air. And as I mentioned earlier, some people were held downstairs as the staff didn't direct them into the correct cinema but claimed it hadn't started yet!
