Re: Gulliver's Travels
This is the silliness film I have seen! It is fun though, and I loved it. I giggled all the way through, and wanted to cheer and clapped as they did in the film
when the "baddies" got their comeuppance!
The time went very quickly. Just what I needed on a Boxing Day Sunday!
Good turn out too. Marble Arch was packed.
8/10
I think Boxing Day opening in Oxford Street is 12noon to 6pm.

Re: Gulliver's Travels
I have never been so cold in my life. Had to wait ages for a bus to the cinema, then 15 minutes outside the cinema, they finally let us in at 5 to 10. The screening then started with a short film at 10.20 and I said to OH "why are they starting already?" So we get the short film then the opening credits then the screen goes dark and someone comes in and says "sorry, we've been told it starts at 10 but we will rewind and start again". No problem, but if you thought it starts at 10 then you were bloody late letting people in and starting the film!
Anyway, film was ok but nothing to write home about. The short film about Scrat (from Ice Age) and how the world started was actually the funniest bit. Most of the actors in GT were woefully underused. The way Gulliver put out the fire was yuckily funny but there weren't any big or clever ideas in there, although it was interesting how they brought the story up to date with the billboards, the robot and the use of songs: Prince's "Kiss" used to woo the fair princess and "War - what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!" at the end as a dance number even.
Had to wait for a bus home ages too. Now going over the river again to meet bevvy + OH. I haven't thawed up yet!

Re: Gulliver's Travels
Well well well........I don't know if I am lucky or not....The screening at Swiss Cottage was delayed and they had some firemen checking out the building, eventually we got in and we watched as far as Gulliver getting onto his boat and then the screen was turned off and we were told to leave the building and collect a free odeon ticket voucher and the firemen were back...
Can't really rate the film but it was going at about 4/10 at that point. The voucher was nice with no cinema restrictions and no expiry date, but it was a nightmare trying to find transport to escape from Swiss Cottage as none of the buses stopped!

Re: Gulliver's Travels
Me and my mate for one loved this!
was a bit slow starting which is possibly why they included the scrat short at the beginning(which was very amusing, scrat does need his own film!) I found the later half of the movie better than the beginning but equally enjoyed all the actors, I do agree that some of the actors were under used but overall i thought it was a very good family movie for boxing day morning :)
birmingham odeon was pretty much rammed(no arm rest space either side!
) but everyone enjoyed themselves, parents, kids and couples :)

Heavy night last night but still got up in plenty of time for the start of the film. Unfortunatly went to the wrong cinema so missed the film anyway. Must be a moral here somewhere.

An amusing and enjoyable enough way to spend an hour or so with the family on a cold boxing day.
I thought Jack Black was really good in this, although to me the film seemed a little disjointed in places. I agree with those who posted they thought certain cast members were underused. It would have been nice to see more of Amanda Peet in the Darcy Silvermman role in the latter part of the film for example.
A slightly disappointing 6.5 out of 10 from me - but pretty good for a family viewing film nonetheless.
For once they didn't show the "Is that an Orange Shop? /Stop flipping that thing...." commercial.

I was going to a film in Wandsworth, knew what time it started, but somehow forgot whilst eating breakfast. Went off, to get the bus and about halfway there, rrealised that it had started 10 minutes previously

Re: Gulliver's Travels
Saw this morning @ Greenwich... All went fine with the start of the show was excited to know it was in 3D... And i think i liked the movie only because it was in 3D... Don't think it would be as much fun otherwise... I would rate it as Average though...

Re: Gulliver's Travels
Really, I thought the 3D was completely pointless and I can't even remember a scene where the 3D was obvious or aiding the story. I can shortly start a shop selling 3D glasses, I have got that many now.
