oh dear, what time did you arrive then? that's such a shame. If they were there, they weren't announced

It wasn't them, they were extras hired by Jameson's for the event. They usually do something like that... We queued from about 6.15 and only just got in. Brass monkeys indeed.

Just what i thought, though very nice indeed. They definitely oversubscribed the event, i think they had to turn away 70+. I didnt realise the screening would be that huge or else I would have went earlier.

valda, I arrived at about 6.30

This was really a film that doesn't need a second viewing. I went because I really enjoy the Jameson events and hey, free drinks. We both agreed that they didn't seem to put a lot into this one, perhaps being satisfied with getting the director and having the museum open for us afterwards. They did have a little skit prior to the film, but it was really bad and worst of all it gave away that the leads survive and that the monsters aren't even much of a threat. What an incredibly daft move.

The Q&A with Gareth Edwards was fun enough, but there were no questions taken from the crowd. I wasn't surprised to hear he's been poached by a major studio. I'm sure Warner Bros are looking to get as much bang for as few bucks as possible. The fact is, that's the draw of this film. It's not especially good (Gareth himself admitted that he's not a good writer) or memorable for what is happening onscreen. It's memorable and important for how it was made. Gareth said he thought the "cult" label was premature and I agree with that. He also said that some people will not like it and I agree with that too. It's worth seeing once (and for some, one time may be too many), but this is not a cult flick that improves each time you see it, or is even in the vicinity of enjoyable.

I never commented on this or gave it a rating after I first saw it in December so I'm kinda undecided as the second viewing lowered my opinion of it. I think 6/10 is about right.

Cruk you were very unlucky, we got there about 6.10pm but 2 of our party were already there so we were with them. Apparently the queue went right around the block, its not good to be over so over subscribed. something went very wrong with the tickets, I had 2 in my name for some reason (I didn't use them both) I agree there wasn't as much going into it as previous screenings had, but hey free drinks are always good, especially as they weren't that good at taking the tickets ;)

But do the leads survive? I went to a screening of this at Frightfest last year and Gareth Edwards did a Q & A. He said something about how you have to look at the beginning in the opening shots to see what happens to the lead characters afterwards. I'm sure he said something about it not being such a happy ending. I haven't rewatched the film in order to see if this is true or not.

Bevvy I think you are right.
Just in case someone wants to watch the DVD. In the begginning the soldiers come along singing Wagner ala Apocalypse Now. It all goes wrong and there was a man and a blonde woman who got killed
Ah. I know what that's about if it's meant to bookend the film. If that is the case, I don't think that's very clear and to be honest, there's so little to make you invest in the characters, I don't much care. I suppose the soldier humming the Ride of the Valkyries hints that it's the same scene, but meh... I'm not too impressed with that.
edit: In my boredom, I've watched the opening online, bevvy is right but I'm not convinced that they were killed. Caulder is screaming for help. Not sure about Sam, but there is a woman lying on the ground. This doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, though. Double meh. Actually there are several bodies on the ground, for some reason and Caulder is presumably cradling Sam and then running with her in his arms.
I've got there around 18:30ish start queing after the third corner, stood there till 10 past when we started moving... At half past I've got to the hammer suv just in front at the door when a bouncer started coming down the queue counting us (not a very good sign indeed)... with the left foot frozen, starting losing the use of the right one I asked the bouncer what the situation was and he said they thought they already reached max capacity of 680... OH (that meanwhile had been chilling in the pub in front of where we started queuing) couldnt stay any longer so we decided to leave... what a shamble btw; when we left the queue was still pretty long reaching second corner.

I love free drinks as well but I reckon I'm done with Jamison.

Wow, sounds like a bit of a higgildy piggildy mess. And yet I'm still sad to have missed it, was hyped to go, everyone I know seemed to be there, but to have so many needing to be turned away, perhaps Jameson can learn from this and sort their ticketing out.
