Re: BFI all-nighter
Well guys, my friends have almost arrived, so looks like I'll be signing off from the forum for a bit! Wish me luck and that I'll get through till morning.
Go ahead, make my day - by visiting my blog: http://jacobthehobnob.wordpress.com/
Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.
Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

Hoping for all the gory details and pics on here!
btw if you manage NOT to nod off then big congrats! I managed to miss the whole first (yes, first!) half of Frankenstein during the week. Was a bit dull mind you, but to only last 10 minutes was a poor show!

Re: BFI all-nighter
OK, from the top. Well, my two friends who came with me (Ben and Richard, who are much older than me) and I firstly met up at my house for dinner. Afterwards I started to put on my costume and face paint etc and ended up looking like this:

Not bad, eh? I was actually reasonably impressed with how the whole thing turned out. Off we went, then, hoping that the London protests would not affect our journey up there. Luckily there was barely anyone on the train, apart from a weird Indian man who stared at me for the duration of our journey... can't blame him, really. Anyway, we arrived about an hour early and casually took a seat outside the auditorium. Lots of people arrived very quickly. Had my picture taken for the competition thing but really turned out to be rather pointless as they later called all of us up indiscriminately to the side of the cinema. It was an audience decision by way of clapping to see who won. There were about 14 of us dressed up, and there were obviously a lot of males in the audience as among the top three were someone dressed up as Catwoman and some guy in a spandex Batman suit. Sadly I didn't get too much applause and only got a runners-up prize, which was... a little... weird. Basically an entire novel based on famous MMORPG Runescape, which is kind of a "Seriously, WTF?" and "That's kind of naff" moment at the same time. The winners got T-shirts and DVDs and graphic novels and stuff which was a bit unfair considering how hard I had worked, but that's life I suppose. Never mind, it gave me an excuse to swear vengeance for next time.
As for the films, I stayed awake for ALL OF THEM, even if I was a bit drowsy during the third. That's right, "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" I sat through with no trouble at all. My favourites were "Batman" and "The Dark Knight" - the former for the sheer energy and originality and the latter for the incredible, incredible IMAX experience which added something to the viewing I definitely hadn't seen before. Didn't think so much of "Batman Returns"; a little muddled in places and features Batman less which IMO misses out on what could have been potentially some brilliant subplots involving him. "Batman Begins", although a little slow, definitely picks up towards the end with some brilliant action.
Between the films they had breaks which were perfect for essential toilet trips and some (actually rather nice) instant coffee. I did a little vlog in between which I will edit and hopefully release some time during the week, I'll pass a link over if it's any good.
Here's a picture of me BEFORE the all-nighter

And AFTER the all-nighter

You get the gist. I'm actually wide awake, surprisingly. But yeah. Overall, the Batman all-nighter was one of the greatest cinematic experiences of my life and I'm really really looking forward to the next one I can attend. There was something of a warmth in the cinema, not from a load of unmarried middle-aged men, but from a group of committed fans buzzing to see some of the best Batman films on the big screen. It's a nice atmosphere and we all pushed each other forward until the last scene of "The Dark Knight". Now, I really think I seriously need a nap...

What can I say? Wow! Well done mate! Well done on staying the course, and well done on such a fantastic costume! I am most impressed! What can I say - you wis robbed! Lol.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Fair play to you for going on the train in your costume as well! I don't think I could have done that. Well maybe with friends but certainly not alone - I'm way too shy.
Good effort! 10/10.

Re: BFI all-nighter
Having the first repercussions of the all-nighter. Felt drowsy and banged my head accidentally on the bathroom mirror... ow... worth it, though

Breaking News: Nolan Casts Weirdfilms as Joker in Dark Knight Rises!
Way to go mate, Those pics look pretty awesome, like the first pic the most, very heath like, and the third pic reminds me of the Joker in the 60s Batman series, same manic laugh posture. If I was in the audience I would have clapped you but unfortunately I would have howled uncontrollably at the sight of any girl dressed up in Catwoman leather.
I knew you would stay awake all the way through, with all that kind of buzz. I love all 4 films equally but for different reasons. You're right about Batman Returns, it was a plotty mess but it had style, witty dialogue and Catwoman
.
Well done kid, you did something I always wanted to do but was too chicken to do. Awesome.

Re: BFI all-nighter
Thanks for the comments Glassy. Glad you liked my costume. And yes, I have to sadly admit, this woman in Catwoman leather was pretty fit... hate to delve in the disgusting stereotypes of my peers, but she was.
By the way, I finished editing my video vlog. It's my first so a bit rusty, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it:
